Water in the Dark

Daylight has failed, my vision gone
And in the darkness surrounding me
I smell water hiding secrets
Unseen water flowing free.

I touch the surface in perfect fear,
Cool and wet with monsters deep,
I can't see them, they must be there
Chasing fingers as victims weep.

Come to me, in darkness fluid
Come to me, the waves of evening,
Come to me, forever flowing,
Come to me, in pouring, leaving.

Water in the dark.

I wash my face with unseen water
And thrust my hands below the line
Throw myself into nighttime seas
Submerge myself when the light is dying.

I kiss the waves; I taste the water,
Precious moisture clings like beads
to my lips, I taste the danger,
Baptize my fears, anoint my needs.

Come to me, in darkness fluid
Come to me, the waves of evening,
Come to me, forever flowing,
Come to me, in pouring, leaving.

Water in the dark.

Unlit water close over me, wash my hair,
Now stroke my face, saturate my frame,
Close my eyes with current flows,
and take me to a sea-change.

In the blackness of dark water
Something pulls me deeply down
To all of you who walk dry earth
my fate remains unknown.

Come to me, in darkness fluid
Come to me, the waves of evening,
Come to me, forever flowing,
Come to me, in pouring, leaving.

Water in the dark.
