Joaquin Phoenix: His Commercial

This is about Joaquin's very first commercial, done only around Holiday season 1998.

Joaquin Phoenix did a commercial for PETA. In the Thanksgiving-themed commercial, directed by David Dobkin, who directed Joaquin's newest released film, "Clay Pigeons," Joaquin is happily pushing his shopping cart, filling it with vegetables, around a grocery store. As store clerk (played by Joaquin's close friend Antony Cangdon of the British band SpaceHog, where he plays guitar) tosses him a plum. Things get serious, however when Joaquin pushes his cart into an aisle filled with dead turkeys. After going into a phone booth to call PETA's toll free veggie recipe hotline, he turns to the camera and says, "Holidays can be murder on turkeys. Let's make this one for the birds."

*Although the commercial is barely 30 seconds long, it's point is very important and everyone should take it under consideration.*

About the commercial PETA says: "He's been a vegan for 21 years and he's only 24. It's the first ever commercial aimed at saving turkeys specifically and we knew that since he's got a heart as big as the planet, it would appeal to him. It took about 2 seconds for him to reply that he would do it." You can check out PETA's website here. Or call their toll-free number! 1-800-VEG-FOOD.

A message from Joaquin: "I would love to stop the murder of turkeys. This commercial lets people know they can enjoy the tradition of Thanksgiving without the cruelty." ---Joaquin Phoenix
