PART FOUR

***RECAP: Howie snapped out of his daze. He looked at the name again, but immediately turned the page, moving on to the S’s.***

Kevin waited anxiously for the plane to finally stop its taxi to the gate where he was scheduled to land. It seemed like forever, but finally the plane stopped at the gate and began to unload. ‘Being in first class definitely has its advantages,’ he thought to himself, as he was one of the first people off the plane. He just missed his family so much.

"Kevin!" Kristen called, waving from where she stood in the middle of the crowd of people. He looked over the heads of everyone and flashed a big smile. He was so glad to be home.

"Baby, I missed you so much," he said softly, walking over to where she was and giving her a long kiss, "it’s been way too long."

"I know," she answered, taking his hand and leading him through the airport to the luggage carousel, "we missed you at home!"

"How’s Scott doing? How’s my baby boy?" he asked, smiling at the thought of his little face.

"He’s fine....he missed his daddy, though," she said in a baby voice, leaning over and kissing Kevin’s cheek.

Kevin continued to smile, at the thought of little Scott’s baby picture he carried with him in his wallet. It was the picture that they take on the very first day...the newborn picture. Kevin had been carrying it in his wallet since the day Scott was born: February 20, 2003. Now, he was a little more than a year old.

Nick collapsed onto his leather couch, hoping to catch the last few minutes of the basketball game, but to his dismay, it was already over when he turned to it. "Damn," he said out loud to his four pugs, who wrestled with each other on the carpet.

Nick sighed, wishing he had someone to talk to; someone who didn’t have four legs and a stubby tail. The only people he had spent time recently with were his buddies at work, but it wasn’t the same. All those guys were at least 10 years older than him.....he needed someone relatively his age.

The girl situation wasn’t looking too hot either. His last girlfriend had accused him of being too possessive, and dumped him after three months of living together. That, in Nick’s opinion, was a pretty painful ordeal to go through.

However, not as painful as some. Nick winced, as he remembered back to when it had all began.

"Guys, I just wanna say, that I listened to the album last night, and it was damn good! Isn’t that right, ladies?!" Carson exclaimed, in the midst of chaos in the MTV studios.

The girls cheered, and the boys smiled politely. "Not as good as Millennium," mumbled Nick, just loud enough for AJ, who was sitting beside him, to hear. "Nicky, shut the fuck up!" AJ hissed, praying the camera wasn’t directly on him. The last thing he needed was another accusation of swearing in public.

"Well it’s true, isn’t it?" Nick hissed back, closing his eyes. AJ shook his head. "I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but we’re on television, buddy boy....shape up," he whispered.

"Nick! You’ve been awful quiet today! What’s YOUR favorite song on the new album?" Carson asked, flashing him his ‘television personality’ smile. Nick coughed, and tried to match Carson’s smile. "I like them all!" he exclaimed, flailing his arms around, almost hitting AJ in the face, "they are all just great!"

Carson laughed nervously, wondering what the hell he was doing. "Well, boys, it’s been great to have you on the show again....good luck with the new album, and we’ll see you again some time!" he announced, "and here’s an oldie, but a goodie....Larger Than Life...."

Nick bit his lip, as he remembered what had happened back stage.

"Nick, what the fucking hell are you thinking!" AJ exclaimed, shoving him against the wall, "you should have seen yourself! You look like a drunk bum!"

Nick squirmed out of AJ’s grasp, but came face to face with Brian. "I can’t believe you would decide to go on national television, drunk as an ass! What exactly were you thinking?!" Brian shouted.

"Yo, guys, just get off me, alright? It’s okay....nobody could tell....I promise!" Nick said, defensively holding up his hands.

"You’re an asshole, ya know that?" Howie said, shaking his head at Nick. "Well...at least I showed up!" Nick retorted, glaring directly at Kevin, "wasn’t that nice of me?! To show up?! It was so fucking nice of me to show up at all, considering SOME people in our group don’t feel as though they should participate all the time! I think I deserve a fucking medal!"

"Fuck off," was all Kevin could reply with.

The sound of a siren off in the distance brought Nick back to reality. He fought back the impending tears, and focused his eyes on the television. But nothing could take away the pain that had been imprinted into his mind for the last four years.

AJ nodded, trying to pay attention to what the girl sitting in front of him was saying. He wanted to look interested, however he was the farthest thing from it. In fact, he was wondering how many dates they would have to go on before she put out.

‘What the fuck is her name?’ AJ thought to himself, trying to recall what she had said, but he had no recollection. ‘Well, that’s what I get for meeting chicks in a club,’ he continued to think, racking his brain for a name, ‘it might be Kayla....or is it Carly? Fuck!’

Kayla (or Carly) finished speaking, and AJ flashed her his million-dollar smile. He was a little buzzed from the painkillers he had taken earlier, plus a couple drinks, but he still wanted to let her know he was definitely interested. "So, babe, whatdya say we get outta here? Go someplace a little quieter? More romantic?" he purred, taking her hand.

She giggled and batted her eyelashes flirtatiously. "I’d love that," she answered, and with that, the two were out of the club in seconds flat.
