Margaret Ladd brought humour and heart to her role of Emma Channing, the slightly dimwitted daughter of Angela on 'Falcon Crest'. Ladd's touching portrayl of a woman who was often out of control (in business with a Madam without knowing, and romance, with evil Charley St. James, who manipulated and abused her) was a fascinating character study. Ladd shined in the last season when Emma finally took control of her life and stood up to Charley, shooting him in the chilling 'Merry Christmas Charley' episode.

Margaret Ladd began her career in the ABC daytime soap 'Flame in the Wind/A Time for Us' in 1964 where she played Jane Driscoll. She went on to appear on Broadway in an Ionesco play in 1969. Ladd has also appeared in the motion pictures 'The Friends of Eddie Coyote', 'A Wedding', 'I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can', and 'The Whales of August'.

Ladd's public stardom from her long-running portrayl of Emma Channing on 'Falcon Crest' belies a personal success which has given the actress immense reward and helped many individuals over the past two decades. Ladd founded Imagination Workshop, with support from the California Arts Council's Artists in Social Institutions Program, a program which has been running for over 25 years and assists seriously mentally disabled patients through theatrical means.

The program, which has been instituted in the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute, Edgemont Hospital, Gramercy Place Homeless Shelter, John Adams Junior High School and other Los Angles health care, mental health and educational facilities, is the work of Ladd and her husband, Lyle Kessler, a writer and director. It began in association with Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, and has flourished into an acclaimed program of rehabilitation of both mentally disabled and the homeless, a program which Ladd still works with to this day.
