They protect us, from the worst movies ever made.

Mystery Science Theater 3000, or MST3K for short, is a show about a guy stuck in space with his robot friends, being forced to watch the worst movies ever made. Each episode is 2 hours long and during the course of the movie, Mike Nelson and his 2 robot friends, Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot, make jokes about what is going on in the movie. They have also made a movie of their own where they skewered the Universal Classic, This Island Earth.

MST3K has not been renewed for an 11th season on the Sci-Fi channel and fans of the show are writing to various TV stations to try to get them to pick it up. For more info, go to the Satellite News.

I've been watching MST3K for two years and in that time have grown to love the show. I am active on one of the newsgroups for the show, RATMM.
