1997 TV Appearances

January: The Motown Cafe in Las Vegas opened, and Boyz II Men of course attended. On VH1, they showed there cute bearz. Shawn said that they have alot of diversity at there concerts. Then they sang a bit of "Motownphilly." They pretended there bearz were singing for them.

January: There was another special on the Motown Cafe opening in Las Vegas, but this time, it was on E! Boyz II Men were excited to seem themselves as statues, they never dreamed that could happen. They were happy that people still liked them after not having an album out for a while, they then sang the chorus to "On Bended Knee" a cappella. Then, they talked to Julie Brown at the Motown Gift Shop. They were definetly plugging their bearz. Each member squeezed their bear, and after the member before each member went, they would jump in front of him, and squeezed their bear. After that, they showed some other Motown merchandise, but after they showed one item they all said, "then you have the bears." At the end, they gave Julie Brown a Motown baby tee and sang "I'll Make Love to You" to her.

January: MTV had there first annual Rock n' Jock Superbowl. Nate (#80) was on the Evil Team, and Shawn (#38) and Mike (#21) were on the Good Team. Nate was defense and offense, Mike was defense, and Shawn was offense. During the line ups, Nate was boxing down the line, and Mike screamed at the camera, and said that he was sorry. Nate and Shawn both got touchdowns. So, whenever a person got a touchdown they had to dance. Nate did the alligator dance 6 times, and he shook his booty. After it, he screamed and said that he needed a new move. Shawn danced like Michael Jackson. Mike had two catches, an interception, almost got a touchdown, hurt his arm, and got sprayed with silly string. Nate almost got another touchdown, but the throw was too wide and he got knocked down. Nate put Dorrittos on the MVP. The Good Team won.

January: On Access Hollywood, they showed Boyz II Men getting there faces covered in goo for there statues at the Motown Cafe in Las Vegas. They did this at Stonecreek. Nate went first, he didn't look like he liked it very much because at the end he did a pretend cry. Wanya asked how it felt and Nate said like a face masuage, but it's not. When Wanya was going to do it, they asked if he was clostrophobic, and he said it matters what the situation is, but I'll be cool. Once Wanya had the stuff on his face, the girl said that doesn't he look good, Shawn said no, and Wanya looked as if he was going to beat him up. Once the day came to unvail them, they were all very surprised. Then they asked Shawn if he would do it again, and he said no!

February: On MTV's Mega Dose, they had a special on how artists take care of themselves when touring. They showed Shawn eating in his hotel and talking on the phone in their tour bus (Mike was sleeping on the couuch across from him).

April: On MTV's 9th Annual Rock n' Jock Softball Challenge, Nate (#II) was on the Homeboys, and Mike (#21) was on the Awayboys. Nate played second base, had two errors, caught the ball that Mike popped up, had two errors, made two hits, scored, caught a ball then almost tagged the guy out, was involved in a run down, and popped up. Mike played catcher, third baseman, popped up (Nate caught), threw out a girl, got a hit, and scored. The Awayboys won the game!

April: VH1 had a special called Save the Music. They interviewed Boyz II Men, and their high school music teacher, Mr. David King. Shawn said that music is a life process. In the beginning, they sang an old song they sang at CAPA. Wanya said that at his old neighborhoods he'd seen his friends, die or get into trouble, and heard them get into trouble. He also said that God blessed him with school, and Mr. King. Nate said that if you messed up, he'd yell, and we've even seen girls run out of the room crying. Sadly enough, he also said that if there was NO Mr. King, there would've have been NO Boyz II Men. He helped us become individuals before a group. Another thing he said was that sometimes they would stay at school until 5:00, just because they liked him so much. Shawn said that we've learned much more besides music at that highschool, Mr. King is a big part of what we are today. Wanya also said that that we love him, is all we can say about him. They also sang with him, and he did stress there vocals a bit, but they looked like they were 15 years ago at there highschool.

April: On Access Hollywood, Wanya got a new house, different from the one in the Us II You book. He lives in New Jersey, right around the corner from Shawn. Right when he got in the house, he screamed like a girl. Then he saw the balcony over his stairs, and he went crazy. Then when Shawn was leaving Morris Manor he asked him did you have any trouble finding your way? Shawn said no, not when I live right around the corner.

April: Boyz II Men were interviewed by Byron Allen at Stonecreek Studios. They talked about still being humble, getting into the music business for the music, NOT the money, how they felt when they 1st heard "Motownphilly" on the radio, once you hear yourself in the supermarket or an elevator, you have made it, about signing one of the biggest record deals ever, what they did with there 1st ever pay check, and they still are the best friends of like brothers.

June: BET had an Intro to Uncle Sam. It basically showed them at the video shoot for "Can You Feel It," and talked to them. Wanya said a guy told him to hear Uncle Sam, I called him up, he sang, got a tape together, the fellaz liked it, got a contract, made a record, and there we go. Shawn said they basically wanted to expose themselves as writerz, and Uncle Sam (Sam Turner) said that it's great to work with the four of them.

June: On BET's Unity Community, Nate, Mike, and Wanya talked about communities. Nate said that not as an inividual all it has to do with is your community. Mike said that you don't have to resort to drugs or any of the senseless stuff that you're doing out there in order to be successful. Wanya said we help the community because the community we come.

July: On the Philadelphia Action News, they showed a few behind the scene looks at the "4 Seasons of Loneliness" video. Shawn talked about Evolution and why they named it that. They even showed him in his winter scene. Nate then talked about the street and that they did loose some touch of Philly physically, but not mentally. Wanya said that they really put their hearts into this particular album.

July: Nate, Mike, and Shawn had an interview in New York for Much Music's Da Mix show. Wanya was not there because he was at Disney World. They talked about many things, including showing the world that they have changed in a major way, they liked the "Motownphilly" outfits, but would never wear them again, they listen to all types of music, they all picked videos to play, (Nate picked Missy Elliot's "The Rain," Mike picked Uncle Sam's "Can You Feel It," and Shawn picked Puffy, Mase, and Biggie's "Mo Money, Mo Problems"), how Uncle Sam was doing, being themselves by the way they dress, II accomplishing so much more than anyone thought, taking pride in not making themselves look stupid, wanting to put more uptempos on Evolution, Wanya having the best car, (it's a Yukon that reminds them of a house), Shawn does not like a dirty car, and they hoped that Evolution would be their best album.

August: On their August 20th Press Confrence, MTV showed bits and pieces of it. When they walked in all of this sparkley stuff was there, and they had the album cover in the background. It only showed Shawn and Nate talk though. Shawn basically said that after the tour in 94-95, brothas kinda burnt out, became really tiring so we really needed that time away to just like kinda re-group and just re-fuel and it was definetly needed and we're ready again, that hunger again, anxious anxiety II go back out there and do our thing. Nate said (while slouching) After the success of the last album, it's kinda rough to come back after something like that, but I think towards the end of the project, we started getting that warm feeling again where everything started falling into place and it usually starts at the end of the project so everytime we start it's like what are we gonna do, is it going to be able to compare to the last, and towards the end with those Jimmy Jams and Terry Lewis' and Babyfaces, starting feeling that it's like I'm feeling it again let's just go do it.

September: Boyz II Men make one of their first talk show appearances for Evolution on the Rosie O'Donnell Show. They sang "4 Seasons of Loneliness" and "End of the Road." They were interviewed, but Shawn did talk most of the time since his mom wrote a letter to Rosie about her son. Since Shawn's 25th B-Day was that week, they had a birthday cake for him too.

September: Boyz II Men go to the Virgin Megastore in Times Square to sign copies of Evolution. It was at midnight, so they looked pretty tired too. They were very happy about the response to the signing since they have been away for three years and been forgotten for the last year. Shawn hugged some girl and all these girls in the background were taking pictures, it was cute. When they sat Boyz II Men down for a short interview, Nate said they liked the way "4 Seasons of Loneliness" turned out, and will like to do more in that fashion.

September: Boyz II Men made another appearance on the Jay Leno Show, but sorta got jipped this time because they couldn't even sing all of "A Song For Mama" because of time, or have an interview.

September: Boyz II Men made another talk show appearance, this time on The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show. They sang "Motownphilly" (one of the best performances of that song), and "4 Seasons of Loneliness." They were interviewed talking about Stonecreek Recordings (Uncle Sam was even in the audience), being in a group is like a marriage, and about their wonderful image (even though that's the way they are). Wanya gave Keenan a Motown Cafe jacket too. It was great to see people screaming for them again, like old times.

September: Boyz II Men were on Oprah for the second time (Wanya's 3rd). They did some of their greatest hits with Babyface, (in an unplugged way), "I'll Make Love to You," "Water Runs Dry," and "End of the Road," and they sang "A Song For Mama" to the women they love most, their moms and Wanya's grandma. It was really sweet to see them there with their moms.

September: MuchMusic had two spotlights on the Boyz which showed most of their videos and small parts of interviews with them. One interview was from February 1992, before "End of the Road." They talked about how their education was important to them, about "Uhh Ahh," (the lady that was interviewing them called them young Hugh Heffners), and they said they were not Boyz anymore or Men yet, but they are in the middle. The second interview was in August of 1994. It really was not an interview though, they just showed them singing "I'll Make Love to You" across the street from Radio City Music Hall in New York. The last interview was just the Da Mix interview, in July.

October: Boyz II Men made their 2nd appearance on The David Letterman Show. They sang "4 Seasons of Loneliness."

October: MTV had a mini story on Boyz II Men being #1 again after a three year absence. They showed Shawn talking about the title of the album at the press conference they held in August. Here's a bit of what he had to say, we felt that we were growing as men. We are very different from the past two albums, we noticed changes in ourselves. The year and half off gave us a chance to except the changes. So, Evolution was like the perfect name.

October: MTV showed another clip from Boyz II Men's Virgin Megastore signing, this time Wanya talking about two of the producers on Evolution Babyface and Puffy. He basically said that Babyface is like the 5th member of Boyz II Men, and when they get together something beautiful always seems to happen. About Puffy, it was their 1st time working with him. Wanya thinks that he is a very skillful producer, he knows what he wants and he'll do it, so they basically did their thing.

October (?): Boyz II Men appeared on the Japan show, Music Station. They met four girls that liked them and they asked them what kinds of girls they liked, (Nate said Japanese & Wanya said pretty one's), Shawn said they like Japan girls because they are beautiful, sweet, and kind, and then they sang a bit of "Thank You" a cappella (of course). Then they sang "4 Seasons of Loneliness" (not all of it though), just standing on a stage. At the very end, they were asked how they liked the show, and they said they had a great time.

October: On October 18th, Boyz II Men did an in-store signing at the HMV in Japan. On MTV News Japan, they did a report on the appearance which I could not understand since I don't understand Japanese! :-) But, they talked to fans, and some of them were asked what their favorite Boyz II Men video was (I think) and they said "End of the Road," "I'll Make Love to You", and "On Bended Knee." A lot of people were there. They finally showed Boyz II Men singing a bit of "Can You Stand the Rain" a cappella and then showed them leaving the place, all saying hi to the camera.

October (?): On Japan's PJ, Boyz II Men were shortly interviewed and sang again. This time, Shawn said they are gad that they did well on the charts because it shows that people really like what you are doingm and they sang a song for the show (a cappella), and mentioned the host's name, which she really loved. Then they sang "4 Seasons of Loneliness," they did the choreography for it this time.

October: On Japan's Music Fair, Boyz II Men were in the middle of Vanessa Williams and the Spice Girls on the stage of Music Fair. They even applauded Vanessa Williams when she spoke in Japanese. When they were asked how it felt to be in the middle, they said they loved being in the middle, and it's a beautiful thing, (Spice Girl's laugh). They were then asked what Evolution was like, and Victoria (from the Spice Girls) said she just listened to it in the bath tub before the show. So, Wanya asked her did it soothe her mind, and she of course said yes. He then went on to say that Evolution is a journey and you can fly with it. After the artists were interviewed, the Spice Girls performed, and Boyz II Men then performed "4 Seasons of Loneliness" sitting in stools. At the very end, they thanked their Japan fans for loving them.

October: At a hotel Boyz II Men was staying at, they were interviewed on MTV Jams Japan by the host, Riko. They first introduced themselves ot the camera, and did a funny way of introducing the next member of the group. They then showed one of their videos, but made sure that people who were watching went to the bathroom before they came back. The fellas were being very different during this interview. Nate kept doing impressions of Busta Rhymes, screaming at the camera, and other funny things. Him and Shawn were constantly talking to each other also. Wanya was like the only serious one during the interview, Mike was only semi-serious. When the first question was asked, the camera went very close-up to Wanya, so he asked if he had any boogies in his nose, and Nate and Shawn went really close to each other to do an impression of that. They talked about many things during this interview, so the topics included what Evolution is about, they've evolved a lot since II, Riko's friend just split with his girlfriend, and got even sadder when he heard "4 Seasons of Loneliness" which was then his song, which then made him cry, Shawn said you don't see a guy express their feelings a lot, they've gone through what the song talks about before, in a transistion stage between a man and a boy right now, Shawn said being a man means to preserve that boyish or that girlish quality, Mike thought the girlish part was about him, but it was really about the host, how they got together, the rap group, the Roots, also went to Creativ and Performing Arts, took classes and played ball with them, Quest Love from the Roots played the drums in the "Motownphilly" video, Tariq from the Roots did a duet with one of their artists, The Metal Men, on a song called "Don't You Want,"looked very young and had big hair in the "Motownphilly" video, Stonecreek was a gift from Tommy Mottola after the success of "One Sweet Day," have other artists on the label, mentioned two of them, The Metal Men and Jessica, they really like Popa Chief (he did the rap in Uncle Sam's "Can You Feel It" video), throughout the interview they pretended to understand Japanese, Puffy will never be in a Boyz II Men video because his videos are not for Boyz II Men, liked the way "A Song for Mama" turned out so put it on Evolution, Mike was being ignored most of the interview so when he was finally asked a question he got up from this ledge and said he was leaving these guys to act, but then said he was kidding, he then talked about being able to audition for both Hoodlum and How to be a Player and got both parts, the other three members were then asked to evaluate his performance, Wanya evaluated How to be a Player and he said that his short and sweet line was cool, and the women loved it. For Hoodlum Shawn said it was hot and he got some skills, they were them asked about musical inspiraions, Nate said Shawn Stockman's "Visions of a Sunset" and Shawn was somewhat blushing and said whatever to him, the artists they are listening to now included Janet Jackson, Joe, Brian McKnight, Sheryl Crow, Wu-Tang, accept hip-hop, did a song with Busta Rhymes, but it didn't make the deadline for the album, they still have the song and will use it though, introduced "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See", and Wanya, Shawn, and Nate were singing it and doing many impressions of Busta, Riko then took out the Evolution booklet from the CD, and each member showed their page, and at the end Nate got the pic of all four of them, Mike said the booklet even talks to you, Wanya then talked about "Can You Stand the Rain" while Nate, Mike, and Shawn hummed "End of the Road" for inspirational music, and at the very end they sang a bit of "Can You Stand the Rain."

October: On a Japan show called Yo Gaku Panic!, Boyz II Men met one of their Japan fans. When the girl walked in, Nate was on his cellular phone, and they then shook hands and bowed their heads to each other. She sked them what they thought of her and Shawn said she was sweet, cute, and a doll baby. They then sang the chorus to "4 Seasons of Loneliness" a capella. The girl then got a basketball and dribbed it across the room, and Nate got the ball and did a few tricks with it, and Wanya, Shawn, and Mike all clapped for him. Then the girl sang a Japanese song, and Shawn and Wanya were really getting into the song. They then sang the chorus to "End of the Road" a capella.

October: On MTV Japan News, they showed a MTV Europe News segment of the Boyz. Since I don't understand Japanese, I don't know what Boyz II Men were asked. They showed a bit of a performance of "4 Seasons of Loneliness" from a MTV Live Europe performance. Then they showed an interview with them, and Wanya talked most of the time. He talked about what "4 Seasons of Loneliness" is about, I don't get this part, but for some reason, Wanya said butt naked, and Nate gave him a high five saying butt naked, that's my man! I don't really get that part, but it could have something to do with the line in "4 Seasons of Loneliness" that says "skinny dippin' in the ocean where we used to do." Anyway, Shawn said that he bought a phat crib (house, for people that don't know), and a jet black Diablo, (I guess that question was what they did with their money). They also said that they have never gotten a MTV Video Music Award, and that's their next goal. I think Wanya was aked where he used to work, and he said he used to be a pretzel maker at Shelton Hand Mall at a place called Bivarien Pretzels. I think Mariah Carey said working with Boyz II Men was one of the best experiences of her career, and Boyz II Men said that was one of the best experiences of their career. They also said that hip-hop is apart of their culture, and they of course can't rap.

October: Boyz II Men make yet another talk show appearance, this time on the VIBE Show. They sang a bit of "Vibin'," all of "Doin' Just Fine," Uncle Sam sang "I Don't Ever Want to See You Again (with Mike in it at the end), and Boyz II Men were interviewed. They talked about all of the business things that they are doing now. Shawn has a movie company Tri S (SSS), they all own a part of the Motown Cafe, Nate having a hair salon (International Stylings), and a clothing line (GTP), and Wanya discovering Uncle Sam.

October: BET showed parts of Boyz II Men's press conference for their Smoke-Free campaign, but Wanya was not there because he was sick. Mike said that your life will always be affected by smoking if you do it.

October: On ABC News, they showed clips from the smoke-free press conference that Boyz II Men had. Nate said if you smoke, everyone shares it with you, and Mike said the same thing that they showed on BET.

October: Nate, Mike, and Shawn were interviewed on BET's Planet Groove (Wanya was sick). They talked about many things. Including why they chose the name Boyz II Men, love is a lot of different things to them, what their most meaningful song is (all of them), how each member feels they have matured, not having much time for friends, still living in Philly, they are just regular guys that got a huge break from God, how important image is to them (not as important as before), Alex Vanderpool was not really them, it's a good thing being a role model, Nate is the guy most likely to get married first in the group, they now have a grasp on the business side of things now, Nate is the business man of the group, always have a lot of pressure when a new album comes out, all of the producers that worked on 'Evolution' had different styles, Puffy didn't want them to use as many harmonies in the songs he produced, instead they beefed up the track more, (they did not like that in the beginning), made Spanish albums because they have never been to their South American fans, International audience is much different than their American audience, on their label, they can do whatever kinds of music they want, a lot easier to record in their own studio, touring is the most fun part of being in the business, they will never break up, they give each other space, and Mike wanted to show his picture in the Evolution album. Then Uncle Sam came out and they talked about how he got connected with Boyz II Men, and he sang "I Don't Ever Want to See You Again."

October: One of Boyz II Men's last talk show appearances was on MTV Live, a show that is made live in New York City's Time Square. Carson (the host) and the crew people were very excited about them being there, so they were the only guest on the show that day, so Boyz II Men were basically on for the entire hour. When they first showed Boyz II Men, Mike and Shawn were playing pool, and Shawn was winning, but while they were talking to Wanya, Shawn scratched and Mike won! They all were playing pool except for Wanya. When they showed "I'll Make Love to You" video, Bill Bellamy (another MTV VJ who's known Boyz II Men since they came out in '91) dropped by to say hi to the guys. He said his favorite song on the album was "Girl in the Life Magazine," which surprised Wanya a lot. They talked about a bunch of stuff during the hour. Here's mostly what they talked about: Not tired of singing, they are very excited about going on the road in the U.S. again, Evolution was like a soul searching process to them, why they put "Can You Stand the Rain" on this album, special performing at the Olympics, more direction on this album, different kind of concert from the last tour (they will be touring the U.S. in April), how they stayed together all these years, Wanya explained the Brandy thing (he said she is a very special part of his life, a really good friend who means a lot to him. She helps him with his life, the talk all of the time), some of their current musical influences (or favorite albums) being Joe, Take 6, Busta Rhymes, The Firm, Phil Collins, Metallica (Shawn), and Chumbawmba, and how it was in the beginning for them. They sang the chorus to "A Song For Mama" in a capella. When they showed a clip of the "A Song for Mama" video, Nate was waving his hands in the air. When they were leaving, they all hugged each other like they were never going to see each other ever again!

November: Boyz II Men sang "4 Seasons of Loneliness" and then were interviewed. They talked about how the name Boyz II Men came about, talked about memories of singing "National Anthem" at the Olympics in July of 1996, they all get butterflies in their stomach when they perform, they were very flattered to sing in front of the Pope in 1995, family and school helped them get out of their rough Philly neighbors, how great their moms are, they all bought their moms cars and homes, all of their moms are actually in Las Vegas at the time of the interview, did a mock commercial of Nate's two rings, sang "End of the Road" a cappella, Wanya kept singing it when everyone else stopped, the interviewer loved Mike's voice so she made him whisper to her "oh baby," he was very embarassed, and a girl from the audience came up on stage for them to sign her poster.

November: Boyz II Men made an appearance on the Australian show, Recovery. The setting for the interview was a kitchen, and the host was a pretty weird guy. The interview consisted of Boyz II Men talking about being to Australia once before in 1994, had successful shows then, the host loved Wanya's diamond Boyz II Men necklace, they all studied together at the Creative & Performing Arts High School in Philly, success affected friendships a lot, outside friendships were different, had a year off in 1996 since the public got tired of them, talked about Stonecreek and Uncle Sam, the producers on Evolution, Wanya read the quotes from Evolution, Shawn's quote got a loud applause from the audience, Mike said that since Shawn loves Metallica, he gets out of the shower and head bangs butt naked to their music, and they were going to Sydney the next day to play basketball. Throughout this interview, all of the guys were playing with the toys on the table that they were siting at, so it was a pretty entertaining interview.

November: Boyz II Men made an appearance on the Drum, an Australian show. The interviewer congratulated them on Evolution debuting at #1 in the United States, they talked about the the album and its producers, how they got discovered, talked about how special their Valentine's Day show at their high school was in the 80's, recorded 80% of Evolution at Stonecreek Studios (which made recording easier), talked about how they handle the fans, when they go somewhere they go at night, talked about duets that they have done, love to work with the Artist, Take 6, and many more, one of the guys from Az Yet talked to Wanya complementing them, he said if there was no Boyz II Men there would be no Az Yet, Wanya didn't know what to say, their goal will always be longevity, and they sang a bit of "Can You Stand the Rain."

November: Boyz II Men made their second appearance on the Australian show, Hey, Hey It's Saturday. They sang "4 Seasons of Loneliness" and "End of the Road." One girl even screamed out "I love you Shawn!"

November: Boyz II Men were interviewed on MTV Jams for a few days by their friend and MTV VJ, Bill Bellamy. They talked about just coming back from their Europe tour, going to different places ruining their vocals, the concept for Evolution was to show that they have matured and grown, how they choose which songs to go on the album, coming a long way since eating cheesesteaks in Philly, never thought they would be this successful, Bill meeting Boyz II Men during his first with MTV, having different control with their career with their studio and label, always will work with Babyface and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Wanya getting all of the love at their concerts, and before they became so successful, they sang After 7 and New Edition songs. They sang a bit of some song I never heard before, and "I Care About You" by Milestone.

November: On the New Jersey News, Boyz II Men went to a shelter in New Jersey to feed turkies for the homeless on Thanksgiving. The reporter said that they were so many cops that you would think that the president was there. They couldn't inside the shelter because people wanted their privacy. Before Boyz II Men went inside, they were asked if they were cooking, but they said that they couldn't, they were just going to serve. Shawn then said that it felt like it was something that they should do since they have been through similar situations as the people inside.

November: On E!, they showed Boyz II Men talking in the cold in Philly about them giving away turkies for Thanksgiving in Camden, New Jersey.

December: MTV News showed the opening of Boyz II Men Boulevard in Camden, New Jersey on December 13th. Shawn pulled the bag off of the sign and everyone screamed. He them said that "it is a beautiful thing, one of the greatest honors anyone could have. How many people could say they have a street named after them?" Wanya then said "they'll tell their kids (when all of them have some, Wanya has a daughter though), and anyone who rides on this street will know it's Boyz II Men."
