From beginnig to end, Boyz II Men's second visit to Denver - this time at Fiddler's Green - was an energy-packed, excitement-filled ride.
The group opened with "U Know" and didn't stop until three songs later. In fact, the Boyz rarely took a break during Tuesday's concert. Boyz II Men group members are experts at working the crowd (Shawn "Slim" Stockman especially has a special talent for this) and they kept the nearly sold-out crowd on their feet the whole time.
Group member Wanya "Squirt" Morris said in an interview that their sound from the group's second album, titled II, has "more maturity, same sound."
That maturity was most felt with ballads such as "I'll Make Love to You" (during which the group threw roses to lucky audience members) and "Uhh Ahh."
Although the special effects were not as abundant compared to their first Denver appearance, the concert featured exploding sheets of water during "Water Runs Dry," and a grand finale where Boyz II Men hop into a box, are lifted above the ground and then, following an explosion, dissapear.
The group does not have dancers, but it doesn't need them. They performed intricate dance moves reminiscent of the Motown style.
The group's bond was strongly felt throughout the performance, but that's not unusual, members said. "Communication is the key," Stockman said. "Being a group is like a marriage."
After selling 16 million albums and breaking Elvis' record with "End of the Road," the Boyz, in the last four years, have truly matured.
But next year, excpect to hear less from Boyz II Men. After finishing the current tour, group members say they will take a break. (One magazine reported the group has had ten days rest in the last 4 1/2 years.) They have ambitions to one day get into acting, and of course, record a new album.
Boyz II Men closed with the appropriate "End of the Road" and skipped an encore, leaving fans wanting more. Despite that, they put on an incredible performance.
