Boyz II Men: Excuses, Excuses

Well according to the info we have as of press time, Boyz II Men's latest album, II, should actually be out as you read this. Not counting last year's novelty release, Christmas Interpretations, it's the first time we've heard something new from former high school classmates Michael McCary, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Nathan Morris since 1991's Cooleyhighharmony, the Boyz' debut.

Meanwhile, a lot of fans have grown from girlz to women. Some have abandoned the group for All-4-One.

But the guys tell us they have a solid list of excuses as to what the heck took so long.

Shawn says there were major difference between putting out the first and second albums. "It actually took about six months to record (II), while the first album took two-and-a-half (months)." he says. "During the process there were things that interrupted the production, because we had obligations that we had to take care of in-between."

After all, while working on Cooleyhighharmony, Boyz II Men weren't exactly being whisked off to award shows or help with other musicans' albums, as is happening now.

The band also felt a lot more pressure this time because they weren't just singing on II, they were also producing-controlling more technical aspects of music-making. As Nathan puts it, "The last time, we went in and kind of sang our parts, and then we left."

But the wait has surely been worth it. Michael describes the vocals on II as more harmonious than ever, because the band has gained experience "just from singing all the time and rehearsing and practicing and going out and testing the different vocals in front of different crowds."
