Boyz II Men Fast Facts

You never know what to expect from these Philly dudes - and every time they open their mouths, you're in for a shock (especially from resident clown Wanya Morris!). Here's a dictionary of Boyz II Men facts every fan needs to know!

The group first gained notoriety after releasing their debut Cooleyhigharmony on Motown Records three years ago.

Wanya Morris and Nathan Morris are not related!

Cooleyhighharmony earned a Grammy two years ago for Best R&B album By a Duo or Group.

Their best-selling single to date has been "End of the Road," which was featured on the soundtrack of the 992 Eddie Murphy flick, Boomerang.

Cooleyhighharmony has sold 5.5 million copies since it's release in 1991, making it one of the best-selling R&B LPs of all time.

Their most recent single, "I'll Make Love to You," spent a few weeks on the top of the pop and R&B charts simutaneously from September to October. The guys are proud of the fact that they displaced the Eric Clapton hit, "From The Cradle," from the #1 spot on the Billboard hot singles chart!

Nathan Morris is the oldest member of the group at the ripe old age of 23!

The secret of Boyz II Men's success, according to Wanya, is "prayer and unity and four creative minds willing to lay our differences aside to get things done."

Michael admits that the group listens to Take Six records and "dissects the harmonies." He adds, "We like to see how their vocal parts go, how they switch up, how they find six-part harmony in a song where it's hard to find six-part harmony."

The group came together in 1988 at the High School For Creative And Performing Arts.

The Boyz' big break came in 1989, when they went backstage at a local concer where one of the hosts was Michael Bivins. He heard the Boyz singa capella privately backstage, and immediately signed them to a production deal for his then-new company, Biv 10 Producions.

The guys freaked out last August when bootleg copies of their forth coming LP, II, slipped quietly into radio stations. However, they never found out who the culprit was!

Mike McCary is the one member who doesn't do interviews, in order to protect his privacy. When forced into an interview situation by a record company executive, Mike keeps his mouth shut - but then cracks jokes to the interviewers when it's over!

Babyface helped produce the group's current LP, II. Says Wanya, "Babyface is a worker. And we're workers. We'll keep working until our voices burn out. Babyface has a method that's different from anyone else. There's nothing easy about it. He pushes."

One of the first songs the Boyz ever performed was the 1965 Beatles classic, "Yesterday."

Their current LP, II, premiered on the pop album charts in the #1 position.

Wanya Morris is the youngest member of Boyz II Men.

The Boyz judged a beauty contest sponsered in early 1994 by Revlon, and traveled to New York to sing for the winner - who nearly fainted at a reception held at New York eatery B. Smith's.

In 1993, the Boyz put out their one and only Christmas LP, Christmas Interpretations.

The Boyz have been described by critics as "one of the few G-rated roups in R&B" - so it's no surprise that the guys intentatonally try to keep their lyrics clean. Not only do the the want to have a clean reputation for their families' sakes, but the guys claim they're tierd of raunchy, R. Kelly-style lyrics.

The Boyz will not let family members do inerviews in order "to keep their private lives private."
