If you thought that all of the artists on Motown were ecstatic about Andre Harrell's appointment as label President/CEO think again, Boyz II Men, Motown's biggest bread-and-butter acts since it's historic '60s glory period, were rather angry when they heard Harrell was under the impression that they were overexpose and needed to take a rest from the spotlight for awhile. A source close to the situation asks, "How do you tell your biggest act to chill?"
How, indeed? But there's no more. Boyz II Men's The Remix Collection, which Motown rushed out a few moths ago, also caused the group much trepidation, according to a recent article in Black Radio Exclusive Magazine. It seems the Boyz didn't think the album was up to their high standards, and thus shouldn't have been released, despite the millions of bucks it would add to their already overflowing coffers. And, adding insult to injury, the group is said to also be miffed that the Motown powers-that-be never consulted them about putting out the remix album.
Is that big draining sound in the distance the bottom falling out of future Motown/Polygram Boyz II Men profits, lost because the group is tired of being dissed by the mega-label? Stay tuned-who knows if this is the beginning of the end of the road for Motown and Boyz II Men. F.Y.I.: We hear that Columbia honcho Tommy Mottola wants to sign them.
