If Boyz II Men get flack about anything, it's for including so many darn love songs on their CDs. But for Wanya Morris, Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michal McCary, the people who use words like "sappy" and "over-emotional" to describe their music may just be uncomfortable in expressing their own feelings.
"People are very, very sensitive about showing their emotions openly," Nathan has said. "Everyone wants to be so tough and hard-faced, it's like you can't show your emotions until something tragic happens and you're forced to. That's just the way athe world is today, and it's a shame."
While the world may have its share of stone-faced stoics, the Boyz aren't about to cut back on the number of beauteous love songs they record any time soon. As Wanya puts it, they wouldn't be being true to themslvesif they did.
"We could get into a lot of other things, like political rap, talking about what's going on in the world," he's said. "But that's not what we're interested in. You can look at the news if you want to be aware of what's going on in the world. We want to make music to ease your mind. We want to give people love songs to make them feel good, to make them forget thir troubles, to make them feel love."
