Boyz II Men is definetly the hottest group around. Their soulful ballads stir romantic emotions within us all. Their songs are a welcome relief from the raunchy lyrics that crowd the airwaves and their music allows us to experience, if only for a moment, what it must feel like to be in love.
Boyz II Men themselves, feel this is one aspect that makes their music such a success. "Romance is something everybody wants. Even the toughest person wants to be in love...so our music speaks to everyone." - Michael McCary.
And that's exactly how Boyz II Men like it. They have no desire to be caterogized as a group that sings for any one particular audience. They appreciate the fact that their music appeals to a variety of individuals. They call their music "Music for the people...all people," and are proud that their music links people of different backgrounds.
Boyz II Men was first brought on the scene by manager/producer Michael Bivins, former member of the group New Edition. Their first album Cooleyhighharmony won them two Grammys for Best R&B Band (Group or Duo). Their second album entitled II, has earned them two more Grammy's for Best R&B Band (Group or Duo) and Best R&B Song of the Year. Along with the Grammys, the group has taken home Soul Train Awards, and Amercan Music Awards; not only that, but their singles top the charts at #1 and remain there for record breaking spans of time. In fact, the only thing that can top a Boyz II Men song is a new Boyz II Men song - as shown when their #1 14-consecutive week running single "I'll Make Love to You" was knocked from it's spot by their newly released single "On Bended Knee."
Boyz II Men have remained the same in that they continue to churn out quality music that is exceptional in all respects; however, they are growing and their music reflects their maturing. Michael McCary feels "...we have matured-we've learned more about life and love by looking at other people's relationships and from our personal experiences."
Although the group sings about love and romance, they have little time to concentrate on their own personal relations. Because their schedules are so hectic and keeps them away from home for long periods of time, they find it impossible to maintain intimate relations. In fact, the group barely has enough time for themselves and family, and it's because of this that they have planned a well deserved vacation.
After touring, Boyz II Men plans on taking the entire year of 1996 to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their success. You may wonder what exciting things they have planned for vacation-and the group has that answer for you-"...read some books, play some video games, run around with the dog...hang out with the family." And for those quiet evenings alone at home?-"walk around the house in my undershorts and a tank...flick through the TV channels looking for nothing...and just be normal."-Nathan Morris.
Long range wise, Boyz II Men see themselves singing (of course) and perhaps branching out to dabble in producing. They also express desires to test the waters in acting. No matter what the future holds for them, Boyz II Men know one thing for sure - and that is that they will always be together. None of the members have aspirations to go solo. They love singing together as a group and believe nothing they could do on their own would ever come as close to what they have as a whole.
And if pigs should fly...and Boyz II Men careers come to an end...would there be any regrets? Nope! In the words of Michael McCary, "We never even anticapted or expected this level of fame...so, if it all came to an end today we could live off the excitement for a lifetime."
