While many modern bands prefer a grunge look of flannel shirts, faded T-shirts and worn jeans, Shawn Stockman, Wanya Morris, Nathan Morris, and Michael McCary of Boyz II Men still opt for the same preppy "Alex Vanderpool" look they wore five years ago when they released their first album Cooleyhighharmony.
And even though some people may think that it's a bit geeky for grown men to wear such conervative matching clothes, the guys have no intention of changing their style.
"That is the Boyz II Men format," Shawn explains to us. "(Wearing) the same (collegiate-looking) outfits or the same type of outfits is our signature."
Besides adhering to the group's image, the guys also like sporting the traditional preppy look because neatness and cleanliness is importnat to them both on and off stage.
"We all like to wear nice things," Shawn reveals. "We all like to look good, thought there are days when we let it all slide."
And Shawn admits that of the guys, he is the most fastidious when it comes to appearances.
"The others in the group tease me about how neat I am all the time," says Shawn. "I'll think I'm looking slovenly wearing sweatpants that are rolled up and some sneakers and a T-shirt and they are ragging on me for being neat.
"And even in certain situations where it doesn't matter how you look, I am never slummish to the point of being offensive or nasty looking. I still have neatness to it. It's just been ingrained in me."
Gee, don't you wish all guys had a little bit of Shawn in them?
