With rich narrative, excellent characters and music 24 7 is a must rent movie

24 7 or "TwentyFourSeven" as it is shown on the box is a British film about a bloke (British for guy) played extraordinarily great by Bob Hoskins ("Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "Mona Lisa") who decides to start up a boxing club to try to break down the city's crime rate. He brings in youth known for being in gangs and teaches them to box. One such youth has a father that is very abusive (verbally) and really doesn't know what is right for his boy. Another named Fagash, has a drug problem. And there is even a boy that has a hard time controlling his temper. There is even an obese boy who is put in the boxing club for one reason. (to lose weight.) They become good at boxing and have their first bout with a neighboring city's group. But it doesn't last long which leads to a shocking event that got me to think, "Hey this is an interesting movie" filmed in black and white for artistic effect or mood. This film about ways to deal with troubled youth is a perfect movie to help deal with the Columbine High School Shooting. "Have After School Programs and something for the student to do. something to vent off their frustrations." quoting myself. Although the characters speak Cockney or other British Accents in this film it may be good to listen closely or put on the Closed Captioning on your TV. Otherwise you are missing out on really interesting dialogue, narratives and characters only British writers could think up. British movies and shows such as "EastEnders" show off things most Americans don't get to see through the glamour of Hollywood. Family struggles and arguments of everyday life. This movie never went to the theaters in the US. It went straight to video. 9/10 very good action and camera work showing off the area where this story is set, excellently layered characters and good use of B/W film. Too bad it seemed short to me (97 minutes) by the end I thought it was still an all right movie to rent.
