A high school kid gets the chance to write an article for "Rolling Stone" on a new and upcoming band during the 70's.

A sure fire Oscar contender

William Miller (Fugit) is a very young boy his mother played by McDormand had him skip a couple of grades because of some strange reason. His sister doesn't like her mother's form of affection, which freaks alot of people out. So she leaves to be a stewardess and tells William he will be cool.

Later on we see William older and talking to a music critic played by Hoffman, who tells him how to act around the musicians. William gets a call from "Rolling Stone" magazine and gets a chance to write an article about Black Sabbath. But at the concert he can't get in so through the help of a band called Stillwater and some groupies Called "Band-Aids" he gets in and decides to interview the guitarist for the band. One of the band aides is named Penny Lane (Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn's daughter) William and Penny kindof hit off as friends. William gets to go along with permission from his mother on one condition, he call ever day to let her know where he is and that he's not taking drugs and is still a virgin, (Hey I told you she freaks people out) Through problems with the band and touring we see how a band deals with stardom and celebrity even when there is problems with drugs and negociations.

Featuring some great songs from Elton John and others from that era. An excellently told story of growing up during the year of rock and roll's down turn. The acting is really amazing when it comes to the chemistry between Hudson and Fugit. Crudup does a fine job playing a rock star. 10/10 for excellent story with cool characters and great music. 100%/100% Cool opening titles and location titles in the movie. 1
