The Corrupter is basically a shoot-em up movie but with style. The style, Mainly good camera angles give this movie a NYPD blue feel while also making it look Chinese using slow motion and choreography as well as the Chinese extras.
This movie is about a Chinese-American cop Chen (Chinese superstar Chow-Young-Fat) is dealing with a gang known as the fuks (its spelled longer in the film in subtitles) who love to shoot and blow things up. Chen gets a new partner white-officer Wallace (Wahlberg) who gets teased around because he hasn't been around Chinese people. (many of the jokes in this movie degrade Chinese-Americans)
They soon become good partners. That's until Lee comes in. Lee is a mob boss who likes to treat people with money, hookers or anything that seems appropriate.
This is when loyalty comes in who does Wallace trust. That's where the movie doesn't tell us it leaves us to wonder. There are amazing chase sequences and shooting sequences as well as amazing camera work and a good cameo of Kim Chen who reprises his role from "Lethal Weapon 4" of Uncle Benny Wong. You'll be glad there isn't a joke in this movie about "Fried Rice" like in "LW4".
9/10 violence and the jokes degrading Chinese-Americans. 97% for the focus on the film. either the projectionist or the film had bad focusing only part of the top was focused better than the bottom and some close ups looked clearer than other scenes. (subtitles were blurred a bit) and even a White bar appears during a cut sequence. Very mild technical Flaws. And added for this film xxxx/xxxxx for brief shots of nude Chinese women and Wahlberg (allot less from what I heard from "Boogie Nights")
