This plot-twist infested movie is really a brain teaser when you get to the end. It just doesn't fit the beginning of the movie.
This movie is about an insurance company worker (Zetta-Jones) who has been interested in how MacDougal (Connery) does his art thefts. (The coolest thing about this movie is the high tech equipment) Here is one question that baffles me. Why would an insurance company worker want to trap a 60 year old art thief. Maybe the answer is that art has big insurance on it if it gets stolen, who knows and the movie really doesn't answer this question, through the many plot-twists its hard to keep this movie straight you just don't know who to root for.
Entrapment's plot is similar to "To catch a Thief" style movies, with everything from dealing with security systems to trusting who you are working for. Now looking back on this movie it seemed I might have seen it before. Some scenes seem to appear like I've seen them before I saw it the weekend of 4-30-99. Now maybe it's my sixth sense but how many times can I see a movie about catching a thief and still think it is a good movie.
Although this movie is great for the action packed viewer it's just a cliché in the world of catching a thief movies. I love plot twist movies but this one wasn't my favorite. It seemed like the writers couldn't get a better ending so they leave us with a sappy one leaving us with questions. For people who hate plot twists avoid this movie. If you love plot twists like I do, you just might want to take a notepad with you because it's going to make you get a migraine.
3/10 The plot is too cliched, Sean Connery is too old for 30-ish Zetta-Jones (Bring on the Viagra!), plot twists are so quick, and Ving Rhames is so great he should have been in the film more than he is.
50%/100% this was a big factor the focusing during the film is great. Cinematography of a Scottish castle owned by MacDougal is well done. Even good depth of field during a laser light acrobatic scene but when the ending comes it falls apart. The ending is bright after scenes previously dark and the focusing is blurry to where is seems this ending is a dream sequence even with jokes on disappearing and reappearing are just used to make the ending look better than it really is....a load of sludge. a bit of advice to Jon Amiel, director, don't make sappy endings even if your lead star is Sean Connery. It's not a romantic film, its an action film, action films end better than this.
I hope if I get to see Alan Smithee's "Burn Hollywood Burn" the winner of the Razzie for worst film of 1998. Then I can think Alan Smithee's work in "Burn" is worse than this movie.
