The story of A Murder and the effect on a small northwestern sea town during an aniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor is the setting of this really good film by Director Scott Hicks.
The story starts out at sea where a fisherman is fixing his light on the mast of his fishing boat, It is a foggy morning. As the fog settles , the sherriff finds the dead body. They suspect a Japanese-American of the crime. but is it a form of racism by the villagers, a trial is underway as Ishmael Chambers (Hawke) sits in the gallery of the courtroom. He notices a familiar face a face of Hatsue (Hat-Su-e)(Kudoh) his childhood crush. He remembers about his time with her. There is more to this movie but it needs to be seen in order to get it. There are excellent flashbacks and scenery of snow on cedar trees. There are mentions of how it is hard or is considered hard to fall in love with someone of a different race. a good multi-racial date movie but the action is way far better than anything else I've seen. there are really good characters and situations. There is good acting by Hawke and Kudoh as well as Sydow. 10/10 for really good acting and scenery. 100%/100% really good use of camera through woods and during snow storm.
