WELCOME ALL MAXIMALS, AUTOBOTS, MAXIMAL FORCE PREDACON, ENTROBOT, AND MERCINARY MEMBERS!
Hello fellow good guy! If you have absolutely no idea what this great MUSH thing I'm talking about is, or if you know and just want to know what the heck is going on, you've come to the right place!!
First of all, a MUSH is a Multi-User Shared Hallicination (as you can tell, the ancronym came before the definition!). It started mid-Octobor 1996, on Benson Yee's decussion boards. I started going on the boards a few weeks before the MUSH started. Anyway, we (Optimus-Primal:now Optimus-Gold,, Deep_Freeze, myself, Wolfkin, Galvatron and one or two others )started making a few action posts on the boards, and before you know it, everyone's trashing those of the opposite faction! Luckily Mr. Yee was kind enough to let us MUSH on the boards until we set up a real MUSH elsewhere. Eventually we settled on DALnet (on IRC), Mr. Yee made up a chat game and the boards were wiped. It took a few weeks before we quit MUSHing on the boards. In the meantime, we had all gone to DALnet and had chosen factions. Soon the MUSHing of Maximals and Predacons lead to the beginning of a new faction: The Entrobots, lead by Rezzurket. Soon after where the rises and falls of the Autobots and the Mystics. DALnet became very lagged, so we switched to dwango.esper.net.
Mr.Yee created a MUSH descussion board just for us.
Now, there were groups of Maximals who had no IRC access, who totally dominated the chat game. These became fustrated with the command of Optimus-Gold and formed the Maximal Force. On IRC, certain Predacons followed their example and formed the Predacon Alliance. Meanwhile, Entrobots were a rarity. The Mercs (Mercinaries) were eventually formed for those with no place to go after the Predacons broke up.
Well, this was too much for most MUSHers and they said that the MUSH was getting too out-of-hand, especailly after Optimus-Gold was akilled off of esper.net for the fourth time and went to sandnet. So we started 'over' in a sense. All MUSH rules were put in place, factions were brought back down to simple Maximals, Predacons and Mercinaries and the MUSH went back to normal for about a week.
After the taking over of the Axalon, and the Maximal leader-wars, from the ashes of the chat game came new and smaller factions, such as FAS, Recon and the Nitro-Autobots. FAS became totally Pred, Recon fell (as I thought) and as for the Nitro-Autobots? Well, I don't think they lasted.
After another major battle sequence, people decided that the MUSH was getting too boring (note: this took place in the summer when not very many people were around) so, after much debate, we moved to techhouse.brown.edu.
The MUSH (now called a Beastwars RPG) went perfectly....for about three days. Then PrimalDemon decided that the only reason we ever switched servers was because of Optimus-Gold, started a rebellion and moved half the MUSH back over to dwango.esper.net. The remaining went over to irc.another.net. This was the first time that I can remember that we'd been split perfectly. No major fights ensued for the first week, and members switched frequently back and forth between servers. So far, the majority of role players are at anothernet while vets and those who can do clones go on both. Finally, the MUSH moved to one server, esper.net. Much to the dismay of many, (namely Optimus Gold and his followers). Lionex was given command of the channel, and subsequently banned PrimalDemon (now Kamui). Many veterans quit. Some came back, of course, but many kept their distance. Another symptom of 'only time will tell' syndrome.
Well, the questions have been answered! Yes, this rpg can sustain itself. Yes, we can get re-organized Yes, people can come back. Because it has happened. After a long (and it took a REEEEAAALLLY long time) discussion, we managed to straighten out the MUSH. We elected undisputed leaders, fixed up the chain of command, wrote out rules and registered members. Amazingly enough, it all worked, and the mush was back on track. With nearly all previous bans gone and the op list checked, the new and improved mush started again. So far, we haven't had a major problem with the rules, and we've made up plot lines and done some really good rping sessions. Things are defaintaly looking up.
And so here I finish up the rough history of our Beast Wars MUSH!
Well, that's about all I can actually say on the subject of the MUSH.
More to come once I get the time.
