Spider-Man: Comic Books

HOW MANY SPIDER-MAN COMICS ARE OUT THERE?
Updated: June 2003

Amazing Spider-Man

With writer J. Michael Straczynski, penciler John Romita Jr. and inker Scott Hanna, who wouldn't? From the 9-11 issue, to Aunt May discovering Peter Parker's secret identity, these stories are taking us the fan by a sweet surprise. No wonder many consider this book as an "instant classic."

Peter Parker: Spider-Man

The Green Goblin is back, the Green Goblin is back!! Peter Parker's patience is tested as his worse enemy makes his life more miserable than before. But who will win?

Ultimate Spider-Man

Who would have thought that re-doing the Marvel Universe with a new twist would be so successful? The first issue is now selling for more than $30.00 and it's a great reading. The story is just great and keeps you at the edge of your seat and makes you wonder what will happen on the next issue (just like comics used to be a long time ago.) Following the big success are "Ultimate X-Men" and "The Ultimates."

Spider-Girl

In the future, May Parker is the daughter of Peter and Mary Jane-Parker, and not only that but she inherit the powers of her father, and then some!

Spectacular Spider-Man

New series starting July 2003! The fan favorite team of writer Paul Jenkins and artist Humberto Ramos reteam for the newest ongoing series starring the Amazing Spider-Man. And the series kicks off with a bang, as Spidey faces off against his deadliest foe, Venom!

Limited Series in 2003:

Venom

Spider-Man & Wolverine

Other series no longer available:
Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan

After Marvel's Mangaverse, Spider-Man comes out in his own mini-series. It all started with the idea of what if the Marvel Universe was created "a la japanese style." The Avengers could literately assemble as a giant robot, the X-Men were, well, X-Men, the Punisher was an avenging girl. As for Spider-Man, he went after Venom to avenge the death of his sansei.

SPIDEY: A UNIVERSE X SPECIAL
Source: Wizard: The Guide To Comics web site.

Do you have Marvel Comics' Spidey: A Universe X Special? Do you have the rare issue with the "hidden message"? If you do, that comic is worth between $30 and $75 (if not more).

You see Spidey: A Universe X Special was supposed to be at comic stores late November of 2000. But the book was late, and for an interesting reason.

A "hidden message" was planted in the background of page 28 of the comic. A series of books are seen on a bookshelf, and if you read down the spines of the books, a message allegedly disparaging recent Marvel Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras can be found:

"Harras, ha ha, he’s gone! Good riddance to bad rubbish. He was a nasty S.O.B."

Marvel elected to shred the book when the message was found. But a few copies made it into circulation via Diamond Comics Distributions’ "First Look" program, a service that send one copy each of all next week’s books to stores that subscribe to the program. A few copies were also erroneously shipped to Europe.

A new, "corrected" version of Spidey: A Universe X Special was ship later. Early reports have the "Harras" version selling for anywhere between $30 and $75.
