Here are some of the movies I find inspiring, when I find more time I'll get into just WHY I find them so...
ANASTASIA studio-maintained movie site Bearing in mind the movie is completely a 'what if?' (as in, "What if Anastasia survived the murder of her family and reunited with her grandmother in Paris?"), it's a beautifully done 'what if?'. Anastasia -- who spends most of her adult life in the movie as an amensiac young woman now called Anya -- is a headstrong character I found myself wanting to root for. She's one of the best developed female characters to come along in animation in a long time... and kudos to Fox Animation for taking the risk! Both Anastasia and Beauty (see below) are the kind of female leads I'd want my children to grow up watching... once I have some, that is.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST fan-maintained movie/musical site
Still the most independent heroine Disney has developed, Belle knows how to be pretty without the frills... and thinks reading is cool too! Beautiful and educated make her a heroine to root for. The film featuring her helping the Beast find the goodness within himself is poignantly written, without talking down a the young audience -- making it enjoyable for any age. In fact, the storytelling so captivated an older audience it became a sucessful Broadway musical as well. Both Beauty and Anastasia (see above) are the kind of female leads I wished to see in films as a kid -- I was never much infatuated with Cinderella or Snow White, though Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) rated higher than average.
