INSPIRATIONAL POETRY

Poetry to me is "music without music," but even that is an oversimplification. There are patterns of rhythm, arrangement on the page, and other things you can do with a poem that simply cannot be done with a musical composition. So what short-form and long-form poetry do I find inspiring? Here's a list...

Geoffrey Chaucer, Dante (Alighieri), Robert Frost, Homer, Langston Hughes, Edgar Allan Poe

GEOFFREY CHAUCER
"Canterbury Tales"

DANTE (ALIGHIERI)
The Divine Comedy -- "The Inferno," "The Purgatorio," "The Paradiso"

ROBERT FROST
"The Road Not Taken"

HOMER "The Illiad," "The Odyssey"

LANGSTON HUGHES
"A Dream Deferred"

EDGAR ALLAN POE
"Annabel Lee," "The Raven"
