On Kubrick & Chimps

A quick suggestion by Cosmic Chris

Thinking about Kubrick, I started thinking it really sucks that he never got a shot at a Planet of the Apes remix...I mean, if anyone should have made the big ape epic it should have been kubrick--I mean part of what wounds the simian adventure is that the director doesn't seem quite capable of pulling off all the cynical and self-loathing aspects of the movie. I'm altogether convinced that Taylor should have even been more dislikable as the last intelligent human on earth, and the apes could have also been meaner. Clearly Kubrick was the man to take all the meaness in this film and carried it out to its' logical extreme. Why the hell wait for a second movie to blow up the earth...it should have happened in the first one. And each dislikable character (namely taylor and the orangatang leader I can't remember the name of) deserved lengthy scenes developing the audiences' dislike for them. I'd like to see 20 minutes of chuck before he went into the future just being a cynical, bitter ass, hence making his siding with the human race somewhat ironic, and also giving perspective to why at the beginning of the film he immediately wants to take over the black haired primitives. Kubrick should have made this film and it should have been 3 hours long. I can only hope the remake with schwarzenegger will be the ape movie I've always wanted :)

[Webmaster Note: Yeah, I yanked this straight out of an e-mail message. Cosmic Chris is usually a bit more lucid than this. I like the idea of the late Kubrick doing an Ape movie, I just hope he would of used better monkey suits than the ones he had in 2001.]
