Miki & Co.

This page features Miki Saegusa interacting with some of her overacting co-stars.

This shot is from Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and features Miki with Professor Mazaki, the dinosaur expert. While his part was effectively over in the first third of the movie he still inexplicably hung around for the rest of the movie for seemingly no other reason than to exchange dialogue with Miki. Here he and Miki look appropriately surprised when -in a burst of harp music- Godzilla makes his first appearance in the movie.

Here's three pictures featuring Miki interacting with Security Chief Ruzo Dobashi. I love this guy -he makes Godzilla vs Mothra a joy to watch. At some point I should check out the Japanese version of this movie, but the dubbed voice they have picked for him gives a wonderfully hysterical line reading which seems very appropriate for the character. Plus, he has a very expressive, muggy face that transcends any language barrier. Just look at how he's emoting the hell out of this shot.

[Note: This is also the scene where Miki seems to first throw her lot in with Godzilla. While all the other characters are concerned about the other monsters or the fate of Japan, Miki seems more worried about Godzilla's well-being. Watch for the shot where she shrieks "Godzilla!" when it looks like he's losing.]

Miki looks appropriately worried, while the guy on the left looks like your dad's dull golf buddy. Dobashi, however, looks so tense and wrapped up in the monster fight he's watching that it looks as if it's all he can do to keep his head from flying off his body like a cork.

Godzilla has been driven off and everyone is jubilant, but no one more so than Dobashi. The joy of witnessing a pair of giant moths beating off the King of the Monsters is written all across his face.

If you want to catch some of Miki's solo work, go to the next page. That, or you can head back to the Miki Shrine.
