Mothra (1996)
Objective Synopsis:
In a unique twist from most Mothra movies, the
trouble starts with humans messing with the environment and the twins
being threatened. Mothra has to come along, rescue the twins, defeat the
enemy, and deliver a subtle message about being kind to nature. The twins
fight Belvera (an evil twin) while enlisting the help of children
Meanwhile Mothra battles the three-headed Death Ghidorah, and Mothra will
need to change to a stronger form (Rainbow Mothra) to win.
Favorite Parts:
Seeing Mothra and the grub getting thrashed by Death
Ghidorah.
Parts I could've done without:
You might guess what I might say here.
Actually, the twins were not as annoying as they used to be, and never
once spoke in unison. However, we still have to endure the Mothra song,
and worse, as a music video!
My take:
Do not be fooled by the name "Death Ghidorah". He is not the
evil undead reincarnation of MechaGhidorah, but simply a crawling,
three-headed monster that roars like a sick elephant. This is a kids
movie.

Mothra 2: Battle Under the Deep Sea (1997)
Objective Synopsis: In another unique twist from most Mothra movies, the trouble starts with humans messing with the environment and the twins being threatened. Mothra has to come along, rescue the twins, defeat the enemy, and deliver a subtle message about being kind to nature. The twins fight Belvera (an evil twin) while enlisting the help of children Meanwhile Mothra battles the sea-monster Dagarah, and Mothra will need to change to a stronger form (Aqua Mothra) to win.
Favorite Parts:
The little Aqua Mothra's attacking inside Dagarah. Who
said the Japanese don't use CGI?
Parts I could've done without:
Can you see parts from Return of the Jedi,
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Aliens, and the Ten Commandments?
Additionally, I found the 3 kids very annoying. I try not to criticize
the humans in the movie, but this was plainly a children's movie.
My take:
As is the disappointing pattern for most of the 90's kaiju
movies, they involve less slugging between the monsters and more laser
light shows. However, this battle was more convincing than any other I've
seen. Most Godzilla battles consist of monsters getting knock down by a
ray and getting back up as if nothing happened. Mothra, however, looked
like it was really suffering and losing strength by Dagarah's onslaught.

Thanks Hubbard! With this review it's become offical that there is so much Godzilla stuff floating around that I need to move the big G and all the other rubber beasties that followed him from the movie section to their very own section on the page.
Comments? If so, drop me a line at gleep9@hotmail.com. Now ride that big ol' bug back to either the Godzilla or main page.
