TUESDAY TERROR

The date was September 11, 2001
As we tuned in to the early news
the nation was stunned
We watched frozen, aghast
The World Trade Center was hit
with a tremendous blast
A plane hit one tower and out came
billowing smoke, rising high
Then all of a sudden
another plane from the sky
Into the second tower
it crashed right through
We cried in anguish because
there was nothing we could do
We prayed real hard that there
would be some who survived
A count began of those
who got out alive
Little did we know
it wasn't over yet
Soon we heard
the Pentagon was hit
And then in rural Pennsylvania
a fourth plane had crashed
How much longer would this
insanity last?!
We were told fanatics had hijacked
all four of the planes
And used them to begin their
terrorist campaign
Rescuers searched the rubble
hoping beyond hope that many they would find
Above, clouds began to hover
and the rains poured--a sign
A sign symbolic of the tears of our nation
Tears for this abominable devastation
Who were these madmen that showered
us with their hate?
Why were they looking to change our fate?
We are a nation of great ethnic & religious diversity
We have great respect for our freedom, our democracy
And in time of crisis , we strongly unite
Against terrorism we resolve to fight
So many innocent people died for naught
The victims of this Tuesday Terror will forever be
in our thoughts

AMERICA IS STUNNED

SMOLDERING FLAMES AGAINST
THE BACKDROP OF A PALE BLUE SKY
FEAR GRIPPED MY HEART
AS I WATCHED THE TERROR UP HIGH
THE TWIN TOWERS THAT STOOD
SO TALL AND PROUD
TOPPLED BY HIJACKED PLANES
WITH A CRASH SO LOUD
BODIES BLOWN THROUGH THE WINDOWS
BY THE PRESSURE OF INTENSE FLAMING HEAT
BODIES FALLING, FALLING
DOWN ONTO THE STREET
POLICE AND RESCUE WORKERS
RACE TO THE BUILDING, INSIDE
AS FEARFUL WORKERS EMERGE
JUST HURRYING TO GET OUTSIDE
SO MUCH DEBRIS DESCENDING FROM ABOVE
SUCH DEVASTATION UNDREAMED OF
EVERYWHERE ASHES AND RUBBLE SCATTERED
THE RESCUE WORKERS LOOKING WORN AND BATTERED
AS ONLOOKERS, FEARFUL, STOOD TO THE SIDE
FEELING HELPLESS, THEY CRIED
SUDDENLY THE BUILDINGS CRUMBLED
AND COLLAPSED AROUND EVERYONE
AS THE NATION WATCHES
AMERICA IS STUNNED
ON THIS SEPT. 11, 2001 TUESDAY
MANY LIVES WERE DESTROYED
LEAVING FOR THEIR FAMILIES
A HEART WRENCHING VOID
AND NOW MANY TEARS HAVE BEEN SHED
AND MANY MORE PRAYERS WILL HAVE BEEN SAID
