Christmas is upon us
A New Year is not far behind
Time for a special gathering with all
whom by kin and friendship we're entwined
My thoughts turn to holidays past
Time just seems to go by so fast
Excitement fills the air
As we plan ahead
For what menu to prepare
How many to be fed
Decisions, decisions!
Who will host this year?
It seems I've been appointed, I fear
Now I must prepare a shopping list
For a special feast
And make sure nothing is missed
To say the least
Turkey with sage & raisin dressing
Spiral sliced ham
Rice for some, dinner rolls for the rest
Veggies and yams
My table will not be complete
Without lumpia, adobo, pancit all in replete
And because we're an ethnically mixed family
For all the small children, lasagne or spaghetti
Welcoming home sons, daughters, nieces, nephews
whom we haven't seen in a while
Exchanging not only gifts
but updates and photos
To make us smile
Divorces, new marriages
babies on the way
So many changes
To absorb on this holiday!
And then after Christmas
we start a fresh, new year
promising to stay closer in touch
with those we hold dear
