Once upon a time
On a gorgeous spring day
I spotted a line of people in front of an ice cream van
Strangely, something made me head that way
That was when I saw you assisting the ice cream man
So there I stood in line that day
I watched as you idly surveyed everyone
And then you happened to look my way
You gave me a smile that shone brighter than the sun
Your eyes locked onto mine
And I felt motionless in time
Your smile gave me such a start
But it was so bright-it melted my heart
As the line inched forward
You never once took your eyes off me
When I finally reached you
You touched my hand gently
As you took my order and completed it
You kept your eyes on me
With unspoken words, your eyes caressed me tenderly
My heart began to rush, breathlessly
In that short moment, something between us had begun
And everyday I looked forward for school to be done
I would rush in your direction
And I could see you searching for me
When you'd finally see me approaching
You would smile at me so radiantly
Spring stretched into Summer
The school semester had come to an end
And I realized that I would never see you again
But lo and behold! While at home one day
I heard the sound of chimes come my way
And what did I see?
That ice cream truck cruising by
And there inside that truck, you caught my eye
You had a great big smile on your face
One that my memory will never erase
You held my hand and gave me a kiss
And I will always remember this
I finally asked your name and you asked mine
We saw each other a few more times
Summer came to an end and our meetings did too
But I will always remember you
