Sanjay Jaikwad directs Hanuman (Keith Henson) and his monkey army as Caruhasa dasa stands by.

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA--The Ramayan, one of the world's best-loved stories, is being made into a movie. Producer-director John Breathwaite (Caruhasa dasa) and executive producer Rao Arjun V. Daluvoy teamed up to conduct shooting at sites in Mumbai (Bombay) and Los Angeles to bring the ancient classic to the screen. The crew started filming in October at Hare Krishna Land temple in Juhu Beach and Film City in Mumbai.

Caruhasa and Daluvoy secured Hollywood actors Jeff Rector (Star Trek, Double Impact), John Phillip Law (Golden Voyage of Sindbad, Hawaiians), Chandini (Money Talks), Oliver Snape of Britain, as well as actors from New York, Paris, Hollywood, and Croatia--a truly international cast and production. Production manager Girish Ranadey (Jungle Book, City of Joy), assistant director Sanjay Jaikwad (Bloodstone, Peacock Sring), cinematographer Ta Posh (Peacock Spring, Brahma), makeup director Eric Wright (Kull the Conqueror, Werewolf Reborn), and costumes director Sureshbhai (Mahabharat, Luv & Kush) headed the production crew in India.

The Ramayan is an exciting story encompassing royal intrigue, love, and fantastic sea and air battles that lend themselves well to modern special effects. Millions of people 4all over the world already consider themselves devotees of Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Krishna Who exemplified excellent leadership and character as a king. On the day of Rama's (Jeff Rector) coronation as King of Ayodhya, his jealous stepmother forced his exile. Joining Rama for His banishment in the forest, His wife, the beautiful princess Sita (Chandini), is captured by a ten-headed demon king named Ravana (John Phillip Law). Rama fights the demon with the help of a monkey army, led by Hanuman (British actor Keith Henson).

It has taken 20 years for Caruhasa to prepare for shooting the movie, including script writing, artwork, talent commitments, and location scouting. Film production so far has used special sets built at Film City, horses and chariots, dazzling golden head-dresses, jewelry, and realistic monkey and demon masks.

Shooting continues in Hollywood in December. Most of the live action has been shot, and now the months of state-of-the-art computer-generated effects will be added, including golden airships, skyscraper citadel palaces stretching beyond the screen, battle scenes, monsters, beasts, and giants.

Caruhasa plans to see the release of the epic movie in 1998.
