The Continuing Story of Deep Space 2: Page 18
"Beta, one to beam up fast !"
Major Jan materialised on the runabout's transporter pad. He almost took a dive into the helm seat. The Beta's computer had nothing to report. Good heavens ... Jan felt his heart beat in his throat. He had not felt this way for a long time. Action. He started a sensor sweap of the entire star system. Four minutes to complete scan. In this case the runabout's speed could be a huge advantage. If there were Borg out there, he could at least take a run for it. If the Borg would hit him, he sure had not much of a chance. The Borg, so close to Federation space. Who would have thought about that. Two minutes to complete scan. there was nothing in sensor range, but the major's instincts told him he was not save yet. Was he sweating ? That had been ages ago. One minute to complete scan. When there is nothing there, I have nothing to report, were Jan's thoughts, except then of course the second planet in this system, which has ...
"Objects found in orbit of first planet."
"What kind of objects ?"
"Scanning indicates the objects are the remains of a ship."
"What kind of ship.", the major was getting very impatient, "computer, speculate if necessary."
"There is a ninety percent chance that the objects are the remains of a Borg cube formed ship. There are no life signs. The objects have now moved to the other side of the first planet."
"On Screen. So that's why I haven't noticed this before. The first planet has hidden this Borg ship wreckage."
Major Jan plotted a course to move the Beta in transporter range. But there was not much to transport too. Through the little windows he could see the parts of what once was a Borg cube. Moving closer and flying between the pieces, he saw that there was nothing he could do here. The largest piece was about two meters long. If this was the work of those Giloppen, the borg had found a new powerfull enemy. Just for a moment, Jan thought about the holodeck program in which the commander and he had been trapped, not so long ago. He had seen the Giloppen just playing with the Borg. Even if that was a recording of the future, these Giloppen could be already very powerful now. This had to be reported. But then the computer identified some wreckage pieces as Giloppen. So this computer already knew about the Giloppen too. Apperantly the Borg defended themselves well. Maybe there were more Giloppen. Maybe three or four. Maybe a huge swarm of Giloppen. Good heavens ... Always presume the worst ... Let's get back now !
As the DS2 XO plotted a course back to the station, he was not really happy of what he had found. The Borg had destroyed an entire civilisation and then had a beating themselves. All of this was to close to home...
"Three Giloppen scout ships approaching, bearing 231 mark 5, heading 210 mark 2."
"Directly to DS2 ... Shields up ! Maximum warp !"
