The Continuing Story of Deep Space 2: Page 38
"DS2, this is Beta. Now that we can use the subspace transporter, is it possible to send over the Doc here ? I can do no more for our new guest."
The captain agreed. Before the Doc transported to the Beta, he checked the Starfleet database for more data on the person on the runabout. He compared DNA fragments and brain patterns, which were send by Nadine. Now he knew more about junior lieutenant Chris Esquibel than the lieutenant himself. After he reported his conclusions to captain Arthur, it was time to let the Doc perform some kind of treatment to restore Chris' memory. It had to be horrible not knowing who you were and where you were from.
It was the first digital transfer the EMH ever had, but he experienced every moment of it. Chief engineer Louis would later use the information about the subspace transport of the Doc to achieve a more accurate trasporter system. Although it seems like days for the Doc, less than thirty seconds later he arrived on the Beta.
"Nurse, I have to inform you that my portable projector will only be activated for four hours. But don't worry, it is certainly enough."
Nurse Nadine had explained to junior lieutenant Chris what his name was, but it had no meaning to the young officer. He felt more than a bit helpless. He had no idea who he was, where and who the people were who apparently were helping him. Now this doctor appeared. As he understood it, this Doc was nothing else then a holo projection. It didn't make him feel any better. Especially when the Doc talked about an operation. The Doc had to transport back with his patient to DS2 to trie a synaptic induction to repair Chris' memory pathways. The transport itself seem to scare Chris a little but the technical explanations of the doctor were frightening. There was no choice.
As Marianne stayed on the Alpha to take it home, the two cadets transported back to the station. For them it was a great experience. On arrival, they were put in charge of security. It was now knwon who the officer was, but a lot of data in the Starfleet database was restricted and not accessable. Not even for the captain. Marianne would return in five days. A long time to miss a crewmember, especially when there were not a lot around.
"Thomas to captain Arthur. Were are ready sir."
For the cadets another day of growing up faster. A few more days and they would be back to the regular study. As soon as he could, the captain would regroup the crew. But in the mean time the patrols would be a priority. The study of the files from 4465-A should be interested too.
"Thomas to captain Arthur. The Doc and junior lieutenant Chris have arrived sir. The Doc will start the operations imediately."
"Acknowledged. Keep me posted. Arthur out."
Junior lieutenant Chris was on his back on the biobed. The clamshell closed. The Doc put some kind of medical instrument on his head. He smiled to ease the young officer's mind. Then everything was black.
