The Continuing Story of Deep Space 2: Page 48
"Deep Space 2, this is the Starfleet vessel USS Ajax. I see that you have some trouble. Shall we give you a hand ? Stand by."
Without waiting for the answer, a ship of unknown design decloaked at DS2 starboard side.
The Ajax tactical officer deployed nine battle drones in a standard screen formation.
Deploying, tracking targets, targets destroyed, tracking new targets, targets destroyed. Lieutenant Wim's fighter was free to maneuver. The Jem'Hadar fighter joined the drones in their strike. Before the Giloppen reinforcements could regroup the Ajax had already put the drones in a new position. The Giloppen fired on the drones but without result. The Borg adaptation units wroked perfectly. No damage. Waypoint set, tracking targets, targets destroyed, drone Beta moderate damage by ramming Giloppen, Beta disengaging, targets destroyed.
"Lieutenant, the enemy is fleeing ... fast !" reported ensign Helena.
"I see it. I wonder ..."
Lieutenant Wim had no time to wonder. The Ajax had a group of work-drones deployed. The drones entered the DS2 shuttlebay to make some modifications in order to let the Ajax dock inside DS2. The insect like robots started the modifications almost imediately.
Stardate 50219.6: Captain Arthur van Rhee Personal log
Nothing seems to be as it appeares. Deep Space 2 is under major reconstruction. Automated insect like robots are working around the clock, to get us incredible technology which makes our engineers enjoy themselves without interuption. They call it entertainment. The USS Ajax is already docked in this new spacedock. Aboard was the Vorlon ambassador. I have never met a Vorlon before, and I have been told by Starfleet Command that there are not many of them left. Some smaller ships have been transfered from the Ajax in DS2 spacedock as well. I have noticed that commander Luke and lieutenant Chris seemed to know this Vorlon ambassador very well. Chris even received a small vessel full of Vorlon technology. I didn't ask any questions. I really don't want to start an interstellar or even intergalactic conflict over this matter. The Ajax did not have a large crew anyway. Only an Starfleet ensign at the helm to get the ship here. There is something strange about this ensign. The same feeling I have when I try to figger out what commander Luke and lieutenant Chris are doing here. Just what we needed ... Another spy.
And then there is the Starfleet officer's group of the alternate universe, under command of lieutenant Wim Keuleers. I have asked Jan to let them fit in. They are not going back anyway...
End Log
"Ensign Geert Van Nieuwenhove, isn't it ?", the captain asked retorically, while he offered Geert a chair at the other side of the desk.
"Yes captain, that's correct."
"I have studied your Starfleet records and I must say that some of the files are restricted, but as usual I pulled some strings and I have it here and now, and complete."
There was a very tiny little grin on Geert's face, which was unnoticed by the captain. Arthur declared that he would look into the files further and offered the ensign a position on DS2, as the new station could use all hands. Geert agreed, as if he had a choice, and joined the ops duty team to start his tour of the station. Just as he went out of the captain's office, XO Jan came in.
"Captain. This is really incredible. We need at least a few months to study all this new technology. Did you know that most part of that technology is Borg ?"
The captain knew already. He ordered the computer to display the Ajax schematics and pointed to some of the most interesting issues of the ship.
"I am going to have a talk with the Vorlon ambassador now.", said Arthur. "I am going to try to find out exactly why she has come here. I have been told she will not leave her environmental suit, but it would not be a problem to communicate. You have ops Jan."
"Yes sir."
Jan was very curious himself. A few hours earlier he had escorted the Vorlon ambassador to the lower decks of the station where the ambassador had picked out a stateroom. Not very luxurious, but the DS2 XO didn't want to make remarks about it. Vorlon standards could be so much different than Federation standards. On their way to the ambassador's quarters she had not said a word and Jan hadn't asked anything either, not even the ambassador's name. That would be impossible to pronounce anyway. All of this was very mysterious. This new ship, the smaller ships, new Runabouts. No explanations. Commander Luke and lieutenant Chris had left for 4465-A already in their personal crafts. Aparently the Borg were not the only ones who could create some kind of transwarp conduits. Vorlon technology was even more advanced. Jumpgates, they called it. Very strange was the fact that lieutenant Chris Esquibel seemed to be familiar with this kind of technology. Jan had not asked any questions. The captain knew what he was doing.
Captain Arthur arrived at the door of the Vorlon ambassador's quarters. Just as he wanted to push the door button to announce his presents, the lights in the corridor flickered and only a fraction of a second later the corridor was dark. The station shook violently, and again. Captain arthur tabbed his comm badge but that didn't work. All systems were aparently off line, including life support. It was geting cold very rapidly and only a few seconds later Arthur had to grasp for air. He had trouble keeping himself strait up. At the end of the corridor he saw shadows, moving. They looked like Giloppen. The captain realised that this time maybe the Giloppen had entered his timezone from the future. Then this could be the end. It was his last thought. Then he fell down.
