The Continuing Story of Deep Space 2: Page 56

Personel log - Admiral van Rhee - stardate 150209

I don't know what is better, Alyanna Nechayev on Deep Space 2 or being alone in a bar with nothing but a long drink. When Jan heard that admiral Nechayev was on her way to the station, he only had a few words, which explained all his feelings:

"Guess who's comming to dinner ..."

Then he concentrated on his duties again. Maybe lieutenant colonel Jan Theys had been right all this time to stay in the marine corps. Maybe I should have done the same. No Alyanna breathing in my neck. There are only two possibilities. Either Alyanna would come to me to make a bust and show the entire fleet what kind of disorganised place this station was, or she needed something. First of all, this station is working perfectly and even all the intelligence personnel aboard are under reasonable control. I really don't know what this admiral wants, but judging the tone in her voice and especially the part in which she called me by my first name, makes me think she wants something. God help us all if this is the case. I remember very well the last time she needed something...

Eight years ago, then vice-admiral Alyanna Nechayev visited me on Torian III. Our good old USS Starbuster was in orbit and ready to pick us up after a very stressing away team mission. Torian III is not suitable for humans, so life support suits were a necessity. The marines would go in first to secure the area before the scientists would beam down. No problems were to be expected, no life forms detected, the marines were just there as a precaution. The area was secured. After three hours the science team had gathered all their data. We were ready to get back to the Starbuster and I made a last check on sergeant major Harmon and his team when we saw something moving. Actually Harmon was the first to see it. We all took cover instinctively, weapons ready. Then Harmon reported it was a person in a pressure suit. At first we thought it was one of the scientists who lost the way, but all the scientists were counted for. This had to be an intruder. We couldn't be more wrong. Vice-admiral Alyanna Nechayev was comming our way, totally alone. Boy, were we surprised. Sergeant major Harmon had his hand on corporal Bolder's shoulder. She would have shot Nechayev. Good lord. It was close. I never told Alyanna, but that was really stupid, sneaking on marines like that. She wanted to speak with me alone...

And now at the highest speed possible in one of those new Akira Class vessels she is comming again. She would soon find out that this is not the old DS2, she would expect. This station is more alien and so advanced that she would be lost in all this technology. Some parts I do not understand myself. This was no ordinairy station, no simple starship or a type 6 shuttle ... How could I forget ... Being drifting in a type 6 shuttle with Alyanna Nechayev for a few days, alone. I really found ... My XO is calling. I have to end this log.

Personal log - Joeri Verschaeve - Chief of Security DS2 - stardate 150209

Busy, busy, busy.... the last few weeks have been very intense on DS2; a few months ago I was still working at the SF Foundation on Earth, gathering information and studying military and security databases from around the Galaxy and now I'm on a remote spacestation giving my life a new heading. Not that SF Foundation-work wasn't interesting anymore, no no, I'm actually still working for them as well, in combination with my new task(s). Due to the recent diplomatic events I'm kind of a ambassador ad interim here on DS2. Jan told me down in engineering that there might be some trouble coming up with a race called 'The Elders' some ancestors of the Vorlons.... and with admiral Nechayev on the way, things are getting stranger by the minute. I still need some time to complete my security check-up but it seems I'm more needed with the engineers (another new experience by the way, since phasers and forcefields are more my cup of tea - but I seem to be a good student.)
Joost is more of a handyman; he and Geert are like the dynamic duo of engineering from time to time. Anyway, with possible trouble on the way, it's maybe better I didn't ask my wife to come along with me. As an archeologist with The SF Foundation she might have found a nice job on the station but she wasn't very keen on leaving Earth... too bad, because I'm really starting to mis her. I think Joost is propably feeling the same way about his wife, also stuck on Earth as liason officer for the Foundation. But those are normal feelings when you're so far away from home. But let's not get soft here, there's a shore leave coming up (I hope) and the four of us already made plans to meet on Risa. (despite the heated discussions we had with some ohter crewmembers on where to go, it seems Risa has won....). I think I'll ask the CO or XO for some cadets tonight to help me round up my security check, otherwise I won't see many sleep tonight..... but it has to be done, I can not stand unfinished business, especially concerning the security of the station ! Primary security systems are functioning normal, sensors are on-line but we have some weak spots here and there that need to checked and altered. First, back to engineering.....
