The Continuing Story of Deep Space 2: Page 64

Admiral Alynna Nechayev and Admiral Arthur van Rhee stepped in the very comfortable quarters of an Admiral who really knew what she wanted. But this time this would not be a work meeting.

"So what was on your mind Arthur ?"

"I would like to share some memories with you, about our past and why we ended up like this."

"I think we made a choice..."

Arhtur sighted and suddenly noticed he was very close to Alynna. His hand moved up towards Alynna's shoulder. But Alynna was also moving forward...

"Admiral Nechayev, there is an incoming message from Deep Space 2, Lieutenant Commander Geert Van Nieuwenhove."

It was quite for a moment. Then the comunications officer repeated what he had just said, and added it was extremely urgent. Admiral Nechayev turned towards her desk and activated het terminal. On screen was Lieutenant Commander Van Nieuwenhove.

"Admiral. I just received word: Time is at hand. Van Nieuwenhove out."

The Deep Space 2 Chief of intelligence said what he had to say and got back to his duties on Deep Space 2. He could not do anything else than inform Joeri and Helena. about the plan of Admiral Alynna Nechayev. He simply had to trust his two fellow officers on this one. He knew he looked tired by now and he needed to get rest, but he did not have time. Several people still had to be contacted and when Joeri explained to him he had had some contact with a certain Admiral Tevek about the destruction of the USS Gandhi, Geert realised time was indeed against him. Admiral Tevek was on the list of unreliable officers of Starfleet. But there were still many questions as how large was the group of Starfleet officers who supported politicians like Suruk, who wanted the Federation to rule over the quadrant now that the surrounded empires and territories had been weakened by the many wars in the recent past.

Slowly all over the Alpha Quadrant Starfleet Officers got ready to execute new orders. Within 24 hours they would be deployed on several starbases and even more starships. Starship Captains would get orders from Admiral Tevek personally to assemble a fleet at the border of the Romulan Empire. The Romulan Empire had a political struggle at this time and there were new leaders and a new praetor elected, but that was only Admiral Tevek's plan at this time, a plan he set up with Suruk. Both Vulcans had the opinion that the Federation should rule and should control all space travel in the Alpha Quadrant...

Admiral Alynna Nechayev realised she had only little time to act, and she had to act now. There was no time to go to Deep Space 3. She had to assemble her small fleet immediately, warp to Earth and arrest the conspiritors. But that was easier said than done. Admiral Tevek would have reinforced Earth's security and would not let any ship close to Earth. Tevek was convinced once the victories would be final all Federation citizens and the entire federation council would be happy to join Suruk's group of extremists...

Aboard the USS Nemisis red alert was initiated. Coordinates were spread out to all ships. Nechayev's group nedeed at least 16 hours to come together at the desinated coordinates. Then an extra 12 hours were needed to get to Earth. There was little margin of error. Losing time could be catastrophical.

While Nechayev's supporting ships were getting to the rendez-vous coordinates, Deep Space 2 was set to red alert as well. All earlier conflicts between officers, all kinds of problems, now seemed futilities. The fate of the Federation and the Alpha Quadrant was at stake. There was only one way to get this done. If the players were taken out of the game they couldn't play the game any more. Geert and Joeri put their differences of the last week aside and started working on a decent sollution. The operation was called 'Get them now'. With is contacts in Federation intelligence, Geert talked to at least 17 high ranking officers, knowing that once Admiral Tevek would give his orders, there was no stopping anyone anymore. Trus would be completely lost and Suruk's organisation would take over. Admiral Nechayev counted on the fact that if she could get to Earth before Tevek could give his orders, arrest Tevek... But she seemed to be in need of more time. Tevek only needed 24 hours, maybe 25 to issue his first orders and Nechayev and her fleet needed at least 28 hours to get to Earth...
