How he got started in show biz:
The baby-faced actor grew up in Boston and decided he wanted to become an actor when he was 12.
"I was in grammar school, and the high school was doing the play Pippen. They were going to grammar schools looking for a kid. They asked me to do it, and I got the bug. Then I did more shows until I was working pretty regularly."
While in high school, Max recieved the Massachusets Drama Festival Award for excellence in acting. His first professional rose was that of a page in a 1981 production of Cryano de Bergerac' at Boston's Huntingdon Theater. Next, Max moved to New York to study acting at theAmerican Academy of Dramatic Arts. He won guest spots on Kate and Allie and the Equalizer and he was noticed by several casting directors.
"The pilot season came around, and I was sent out for all these pilots and I happened across Doogie Howser, M.D. and they cast me in New York."
His Doogie character: "Vinnie Delpino. He's Italian. I'm Italian. We're both inner city kids. vinnie chased girls, I'm always chasing girls. He's Younger. He's 16, I'm 23(in 1990). I'm a bit more of a gentleman than he is! He gets an upset stomach. He regurgitates on his date. In that way, I'm not the same. I'm a little more mature than that! I also wasn't as interesting or daring as Vinnie (at 16yrs. old) Otherwise, we're really the same in a lot of ways because I take Vinnie for myself."
