Devil's Advocate: 4 BEERS

Rated: R,  138 minutes.

News flash Keanu Reeves is quite possibly the worlds worst actor. Despite another pathetic performance from Reeves this is still a good movie. Kevin Lomax (Reeves) is a lawyer from Florida who has never lost a case. A big firm from New York wants to hire Lomax. He and his wife Mary Ann (Charlize Theron) jump at the chance to get out of their go-nowhere lives and move to the big city. The head of the law firm is John Milton (Al Pacino) who just happens to be Satan. Upon arrivial the Lomax's are treated to the best of everything and they embrace their new lives wholeheartedly. Kevin soon becomes so wrapped up in a big trial that he fails to notice that his new boss, Satan, is messing with his wifes head until it's too late. The first half of the movie is a little slow but that is forgotten when the second half picks up the pace. Some parts are predictable but many things are not, like the reason why the Devil is interested in Kevin. The ending stunk, it leaves you feeling cheated. Reeves cannot act and does nothing to help the movie. Theron does well and is convincing in her role. In contrast to Reeves is the phenomenal job Pacino does. He was funny, outrageous, and a little frightening. This is a horror flick and not a courtroom drama, there are some gory scenes. If they had not chickened out when writing the ending and got anyone besides Reeves this would have been an exceptional movie. As it is, Pacino's preformance alone makes this a good movie.
