The Edge: 5 BEERS

Rated: R,   118 minutes.

Charles Morse (Anthony Hopkins),a billionare, travels to Alaska with his supermodel wife on a photo shoot. On a side trip the plane runs into a flock of birds and crashes in the middle of a lake. The survivors are Charles, Robert Green (Alec Baldwin), the photographer, and Stephen (Harold Perrineau) the photographer's assistant. Lucky for the three that Charles never forgets anything he reads and turns out to be more clever than McGyver. Along the way Charles accuses Robert of plotting to kill him in order to get his money and wife, Mickey (Elle Macpherson). On top of this they run into the bear from Hell, who has a taste for human flesh. Soon Stephen becomes bear food and the remaining two set off to find their way back. This is not a difficult movie to figure out, not many suprises await. The action scenes were well done as was the bear. Hopkins puts forth an average effort, but I don't buy him winning too many bear wrestling matches at his age. Baldwin provides most of the comedy with his smart ass responses to Charles' accusations. Apparently these two are immune to the effects of hypothermia, they are repeatedly dumped into water and procede to run around as if it were no big deal. The Edge is an average movie at best.
