Detective John Hobbs (Denzel Washington) and his partner Jonsey (John Goodman) attended the execution of Edgar Reese (Elias Koteas), a sadistic murderer they caught. So they are a little unnerved when the killings start again, using Reese's same methods. Hobbs follows the clues left by the supposed new killer and they lead him to Gretta Milano (Embeth Davidtz), a theology professor. The two conclude that Reese was under the influence of Azazel, a demon that can be passed from person to person by touch. Soon clues start to point to Hobbs and his Lieutenant (Donald Sutherland) starts to suspect him.
Nicholas Kazan wrote one hell of a movie with Fallen. The dailogue fits the characters, it's not phony or forced intellect like so many films today. Washington does a great job and Goodman is solid. Even though you seem to know everything, there is still a lot of suspense. One of the better scenes is when Hobbs watches as Azazel passes throught a dozen people, each carrying on part of the conversation. The ending was excellent and that's all I'm going to say except, go see Fallen.
