First off this one is not as good as the Grumpy Old Men movies. In their eighth pairing Lemmon and Matthau end up as dance hosts on a cruise ship. Matthau, Charlie, owes his bookie $3000. He comes up with the idea of marrying a rich woman to solve his financial problems. He signs up to be a dance host on a ship, the only problem being he can't dance. He suckers his buddy Herb, Lemmon, who can dance into going with to help him out. Charlie soon hooks up with Liz, Dyan Cannon, a very good and rich looking woman. Brent Spiner does an exceptional job of playing Gil Godwyn the cruise director from hell. A more appropriate title for Gil would be cruise Dictator, couple this with his thinking he's the worlds greatest entertainer and you have a very funny character. Of course Lemmon and Matthau do good jobs and play off each other well. You have to see Matthau dance the Rumba to believe it. The movie tries to be too sweet and sentimental at times, which leaves some gaps between the humorous parts. Highly predictable but still funny. If you are a fan of Lemmon and Matthau you should enjoy this one, but probably not as much as past ones. Be sure to stay for the out-takes during the closing credits.
