Scream 2 starts out at the sneak preview of the movie Stab which is based on the book by Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox), a survivor of the first movie. One of the costumed movie watchers decides to make a big bloody mess of two of the movie patrons. Of course this creates a media circus at the college campus that Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) attends . Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) happens to go to the same college. The two start to get a little worried, thinking maybe someone will come after them. Soon Dewy Riley (David Arquette) shows up and all four survivors from the first movie have a happy little reunion. Soon everyone's worst fears are realized when the killing continues. The big question is who and why. Much like Scream, Scream 2 makes fun of itself. A group of students, Meeks included, have a discussion in film class about how sequels are never as good as the original except a select few. This holds true for Scream 2, it's not as good as the first film. Another Meeks observation on sequels is the body count must be higher and the deaths more gruesome, this is also true. But it is still more of the same thing, some wacko in a scary mask jumping out from behind an unexpecting victim and killing them. Been there, seen that. The best part of Scream 2 is the tongue-in-cheek approach it takes, they know it's a sequel and the characters make fun of it first, sparing you from the task.
