Hello, hello! This is Madam Otaku again. Miss me? Yeah, like you'd remember me from last December. I'm here to give a little personal review of the recent computer game "Hades Revenge". Why? Well, it's Hercules related and, frankly, I have nothing else to
do on Easter Sunday except gorge myself sick on waxy, cheap, chocolate bunnies. A fortnight ago (two weeks for those who don't watch A&E) I was in my local CompUSA and found the above mentioned game on sale. I don't usually buy games from the Educational
Kids section, but, hey, it was on sale and I had twenty bucks to burn. Touted as an "interactive sequel" to Hercules by the meatheads in the Disney advertising division, "Hades Revenge" promises lots of well-animated, humorous adventure, as well as rudime
tary lessons in Greek mythology.
It has many of the original voices, including James Woods, so it looked worth my while. Being designed for humans aged 8 and up, the gameplay was aggravatingly simple most of the time. Phil pops up with so many hints that, after awhile, you want to gouge
ut his eye (which appears in a purple orb) with something pointy.
But the animation, design, and writing of this game is sufficiently amusing to interest any serious Hercules fan. Herc himself, unfortunately,
has been called away to fight giants during this game and makes only a brief appearance. But this game expands the universe of the movie enough so that you Herc groupies should like it, too. Reccomended for all Hercules freaks and, of course, the little c

It's about time Disney came out with a movie with some subtle humor and decent music. Rather than having a pristine, perfect heroine they had the witty femme fatale Meg (just what the doctor ordered), and Herc was a terrific hero. Hades was the best, th
ugh. All the Disney villains since Jafar have been idiots - they were all so evil (Scar) or so stupid (Ratcliff) that they weren't any fun at all. James Woods makes him come alive with his temper always an inch from exploding. He's not perfect - the cl

Another thing I liked were the puns and gags (like the damsel in "One Last Hope" and Hades calling the Cyclops "my optic friend.") Dead brilliant, that. Unfortunately, that is probably why the movie flopped - the humor was too subtle for the kids and o
der kids were busy being put to sleep by Jodie Foster's "Contact". It's disappointing - more movies of
"Hercules'" caliber and I would have a lot more respect for the studio. Instead we're going to get that PC nonsense "Mulon" this summer.

t up. anybody who knows the myth can attest to that. I understand that for a story line that would work for little kids they couldnt use alot of the orrigional, but the fact that they didnt follow it even to the slightest makes it a modern day myth An
a telling example of what market Disney intends to play to. But like I said I loved it anyway. The music was great, the animation was excellent, and the All star voices made it a real treat to watch!
