Judi Dench and Samantha Bond also are returning as "M" and "Moneypenny".

Robbie Coltrane as Valentine Zukhovsky
Robert Carlyle as Renard.
John Cleese (A Fish Called Wanda) joins the cast. In a bit of sad, but inevitable news, Cleese will play "R", literally a successor to "Q". Supposedly Q will go into retirement after this film, with "R" being passed the baton, so to speak.
Claude-Oliver Rudolph has signed on as Kazakhstani Colonel Akakievich.

PRODUCTION:
Michael Apted's first day of work began August 17th, 1998. Official production on the film began January 11th, 1999.
 
LOCATION:
The film takes place in Istanbul, Spain, France and England. The crew may travel to the Guggenheim in Spain to film a sequence written for, but discarded in, Tomorrow Never Dies.
 
PLOT:
First draft reports show Bond is assigned to protect Electra King after her father, a billionaire and friend of "M", is murdered. Oil fields under the Caspian Sea are at stake and may be part of a plot to eliminate Electra.
