WHAT'S NEW
SeptemberWith the three month run of "The Good Woman of Szechuan" completed, I started out the new television season by being cast in a small role in the "Babylon 5" spinoff, "Crusade". Captain of the starship Excelsior is Gary Cole, formerly of the tv series "Night Caller" and The Brady Bunch movies. Look for a January air date on TNT. I also booked another episode of "JAG". This time I play Dr. Larry Nichols, a Marine vet turned psychiatrist who has to testify regarding the mental competency of a marine accused of murder. The casting director is Melissa Skopf and the air date is tba.
MayAfter a five month hiatus from theatre, I've recently started rehearsals as the husband in Bertoil Brecht's "The Good Person of Szechuan" at the famed Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles. Because of production delays, the performance dates have yet to be determined. On May 4,5,11,12,18th and 24th, I performed in a showcase of original scenes with Trinity Rep Alumni West. The showcase, produced by members of the famous Trinity Repertory Company of Providence, Rhode Island was sponsored by Olympia Dukasis, Katherine Helmond, Marion Ross, Tim Daly, David Rabe and others. The showcase was held at CBS Studios-Radford and was an invitation industry only event.
April I booked a co-star role in a sitcom pilot called "The 900 Lives of Jackie Frye". My scene is with deadpan comic, Steven Wright and was directed by Andy Ackerman, producer/director of "Seinfeld".
March I booked a day of ADR (automatic dialogue replacement) work on the blockbuster film "Lost in Space". If you see the movie you'll hear my voice as "mission control", interacting with "Don West" played by "Friends" co-star, Matt LeBlanc. I also booked a co-star role on the new ABC sitcom, "Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place". I play a hardnosed bouncer threatening to wreak havoc on the two males leads, Ryan Reynolds and Richard Ruccolo. Also co-starring in the show is David Ogden Stiers, from the hit tv show, "M.A.S.H.". The show debuts this Wednesday, March 11. My particular episode will be broadcast in sometime in June.
FebruaryI recently booked a role in a new sci/fi
action adventure show called "Seven Days". I play a FBI agent who suggests the use of "Operation Back Step", a high tech time travel device that will prevent the death of the President and the Vice President. It's a great script with tons of great effects. Brush up on your quantum physics. This show is going to be out there.
January-"The Cave Dwellers", a play about a group of homeless people living in an abandoned theatre, has been extended again. Besides great reviews, co-directors Stephanie Shroyer and Sarah Zinsser recently received Dramalogue magazine's award for best direction. I hope you all get a chance to see this play (not just because I'm in it, although I do a pretty good job) but because it has wonderful, universal message. The play runs January 9-24 at the 24th Street Theatre, LA. Call (213) 667-0417 for reservations. On the tv scene, look for me on Monday, January 12th pulling double duty on "Caroline in the City" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Unfortunately both shows are broadcast at the same time so set your vcr.
December-I've been cast in NBC's "Caroline in the City". I play Dr.McMurtry, a radio game show contestant competing for a box of Triscuits. The airdate for the episode is January 12.
GOOD NEWS!!!Due to popular demand, "The Importance of Being Earnest" has been extended until December 21. The shows run Thursdays and Sundays only at the 24th Street Theatre in Los Angeles.
November - In the middle of the month I start work on the WB's hit tv show, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". I'm the school's night watchman who's knocked into a hole in the boiler room by the school's sex ed teacher and turned into a zombie.
October - I've just been cast in an all black production of Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest". The play will run from November 1 to November 23 at the 24th Street Theatre located near USC in Los Angeles. For me that means that on Sunday I perform in "The Cave Dwellers" in the afternoon and in the evening I'll be performing in "Earnest".
Besides "The Importance of Being Earnest", I start shooting my second episode of "JAG". This time I play Gunnery Sergeant "Huck Aston". Just before me and a team of paratroopers make a routine jump out of a helicopter a... I can't tell you the rest. Just watch the show, ok? The episode will be broadcast Tuesday, November 18 on CBS. Check your local listings.
As if a tv show and one play wasn't enough, I'm taking over the role of "Gorky"in the critically acclaimed "The Cave Dwellers" at the 24th Street Theatre. My first show is November 15 and will continue until December 21.
Due to exhaustion and a demanding schedule, I had to resign from the "Spice Guys" a group spoofing (what else, "The Spice Girls") I did, however, record a voice-over for "The Spice Guys" video which is being shot in the Mojave desert and various locations throughout LA. Check out their web page where you can catch up on the latest and order t-shirts, key chains and a whole bunch of other cool stuff.
September - I completed shooting an episode of "JAG". I was the evil Hatian rebel officer holding three Marines captive in a bamboo cage. Besides the guns and explosions, I delivered all my lines in Hatian.
June - After headlining for eight fun filled months, my partner, Rory Flynn and I, said our final goodbyes as we closed our show "The Intelligent Blaque Forum" at The Great Negus located in Southcentral LA. "The Intelligent Blaque Forum." was a comedy act where I played the host of a television news magazine interviewing Dr. Rory C. Flynn, world renown authority on well; everything. Every show was different as we covered O.J., the recent bank shootout in North Hollywood, Tupac Shakur, the Oscars, former Police chief Willie Williams and a host of other up to the minute topics. With a "cerebral Afro-American flavor", nothing was sacred and being "politically correct" was thrown right out the window. Rory and I have been working the local comedy circuit for a couple years with dates that included the Comedy Store, Laff Factory and the Comedy Act. After a long deserved hiatus we'll be hitting the club scene again sometime in the fall.
December, 1996 - I appeared as a guest star on NBC's, "Crisis Center". Originally I was booked as a day player on the fourth episode but the writers expanded the character over the course of three episodes. I played Officer Kevin Powell, partner and best friend to Kelly Martin's love interest, Gary McDermott, (series regular Dana Ashbrook).
If you're looking for a great acting teacher I recommend Maria Gobetti at the Victory Theatre in Burbank, CA. I've been with Maria for two years and I can't say enough good things about her. Maria uses the Meisner technique and has beginning, intermediate and advanced classes that meet one to two days a week.
