BACK TO TITANIC
This sequel to one of the best selling soundtracks ever peaked at No.2 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart within weeks of its release. Other than
a mini movie poster, this ost also contains a previously unreleased version of Celine's "My Heart Will Go On" (with dialogue from the film), James Horner's piano solo
piece entitle "The Portrait", and a 19 minute long Titanic Suite. A good deal for fervent fans of the blockbuster and soundtracks unincluded in the 1st release.
"Come Josephine, In My Flying Machine" (the song Jack sang to Rose while she's 'flying') is very much touching as it includes the monologue of Rose as she tries desparately to
wake a dead Jack resting on the floating wooden plank. Check it out.
THE PRINCE OF EGYPT Touted as The Event Movie of this season even before its release, The Prince Of Egypt is accompanied by just as phenomenal a soundtrack. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Boyz II Men, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ralph Fiennes, Amy Grant, K-Ci & JoJo among many other talents lend their time and voices to this version of the OST. A country album featuring songs inspired by the film and another one featuring the inspirational pieces recorded for the animated feature are scheduled to be released too. The long awaited Event Song of the year by Mariah and Whitney have broken records in radio stations' airplay. This inspiring song, produced by Babyface (Multi-time Grammy winner), threatens to reach Titanic proportions. The 2 Diva's record labels have decided, after much negotiating, to push 1/2 of the album's pressings with Mariah's billing 1st and the other 1/2 with Whitney's before Ms Carey ie. Mariah Carey's name will be featured before Whitney Houston's in 50% of the albums and vice versa for the rest. Do not expect an album of pseudo pop music catered for the commercial market. The soundtrack follows in its film's footsteps in creating a truthful
and genuine story. The tracks run like a touching biblical musical with a deep egyptian-styled music influence. A very mature album compared to animated features from Disney
which are targeted at the younger crowd. Definitely Oscar material- this 76 minute-long soundtrack's a good idea for a Christmas gift too.
I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER Hey Now Now by Swirl 360 is probably the only popular tune released before the soundtrack, somewhat representative of the
high-energy gen-x tracks of the album. Varying from R&B jazz rap to Goo Goo Dollish songs such as Testimony by Grant Lee Buffalo,
this hip record offers many of those heard in the movie. Jennifer Love Hewitt, with 3 prior albums to her name,
performs a Natalie Imbruglish track How Do I Deal produced by David Foster, the producer behind many Celine Dion hits.
A compilation of young artistes, this fresh CD is a good buy for those seeking raw but listenable music - light rock style.
MEET JOE BLACK This album will prove to be a gem to soundtrack fans, especially to those who've noticed and deliriously enjoyed the beautiful musical accompaniment
lacing the romantic film throughout the whole 3 hours. Orchestral pieces composed and conducted by Thomas Newman, this soundtrack is easy for the ears and
soothing to the soul. The charming quality and quiet mystery surrounding Black is strewn among the instrumental tracks as well, making this album a must-get
for those smittened by the couple's romance and envious of the father-daughter relationship, craving for more after the film. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow/ What A Wonderful World"
completes the album with a touch of classic feel. Reminiscent of Free Willy's heartstring-tuggin' sad pieces and romantic comedies' light-hearted tunes,
this treat is not unlike the film itself- Meet Joe Black is not for everyone. An acquired taste maybe. You know if it's for you ; you wouldn't just like it,
you'll love it.
SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE Nominated for and beating The Prince Of Egypt to win the Oscar for best score for a musical or comedy, Shakespeare In Love's soundtrack is no less disappointing than
the best picture itself. Running at a little over 55 minutes, this fully orchestral album will spill romance in the air. Composed and orchestrated by Stephen Warbeck, every piece
of music heard in the film can be found here with tracks explicitly labelled to guide the listeners eg. 'Viola's Audition' and 'The Arrival Of Wessex'. If you're craving for that tune that comes
on each time Shakespeare picks up an award at the recent Oscars, you'll definitely get what you want from this record, if not more. Gwyneth seems to have her success with motion picture soundtracks.
From Oscar-winning Emma soundtrack to pop hits 'Life In Mono' and 'Turn Back Time' from Great Expectations and Sliding Doors respectively. Craving for a soundtrack? This will fit the bill.
THE FACULTY Much cooler than the motion picture, this soundtrack is a rare compilation of huge rock talents ranging from veterans Soul Asylum to grunge Garbage.
With 13 brand new tracks with the exception of the early 90s hit 'School's Out', the hip techno-cum-rock hits will send you rushing like the teens from
Herlington High with aliens on their heels. Other artistes featured includes Grammy winner and nominee Sheryl Crow and Shawn Mullins, the hottest group
currently Offspring and the Class Of '99. A far better package than that from the I Still Know What You Did Last Summer soundtrack, The Faculty is a great
example of such movie albums. Check out one of the best tracks from D Generation entitled 'Helpless'.
