OH WHERE, OH WHERE CAN MY LITTLE SPARKS BE? The last of the laughter faded out at the final tune that signaled the end of the Woody Woodpecker ‘toonfest that had the entire Nighthawk Commando corps enthralled. Heaving himself up from the over-crowded couch, Murdock wished his troops a hearty "sleep tight and don’t let the bedbugs bite" and headed for his quarters with the leather clad Frankie in tow. Second-in-command Sparks was busy picking up the bits of popcorn that was scattered on the floor from the evenings festivities. Spying several pieces in a dish beside the couch, Sparks sighed deeply. Maydock and Range had been feeding Billy and Thunder again. *Those two know that the salt makes ‘em really thirsty and well... I’m not cleaning up any accidents*. "Let me help you with that Sparks" Triple R drawled as she lazily pulled herself from her "Mr. Peanut" beanbag chair. Sparks shook her head no and said, "Why don’t you round all the Nighthawks up and get ‘em ready for bed. It’s almost time for "lights out" anyway." Stretching and scratching, RRR nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I think some of them were headed for the kitchen to search for the toys that came in the Cpt Bellybuster Burger Bonanza pack." Yawning she tried to continue. "Ah ho an hee uf uh han hin ‘em" "What was the last bit?" her associate asked wondering if it was some new code that Range was practicing on her. Embarrassed, Triple R repeated herself. "I said… I’d go and see if I could find them." Sparks just nodded absent-mindedly and shooed her on her way. As an after thought she yelled. "Tell ‘em I’ll be there to make sure that they all turned in. Remind them we have sock puppet practice tomorrow with Vern the Veterinarian." As Range Ryder ambled her way down the hall Sparks breathed a sigh of relief. *Soon* she thought to herself, *very soon* ************************************************************* It took another hour for the two commandos to get the riotous bunch under control and tucked into their bunks. It would have been sooner if Nightcrawler and Thunderbird hadn’t gotten into a fight over who got to wear the Cpt. Bellybuster hat to bed. Range had settled it by letting them guess what number she was thinking of and then guilefully declaring Thunder the winner. Smirking, she wandered down the hall to her room leaving the two forlorn commandos standing in the hall wondering if Thunder had somehow managed to cheat. Shaking her head in disbelief, Sparks called out a good night wish and strolled back down the hall toward the living room, double checking that all the nighthawks had turned in. Sure that she was the only one left awake in headquarters, the second-in-command headed for the video cabinet. Looking for a special video, she casually thumbed through their collection. "Bugs Bunny meets the Wolfman" *That’s a good one. I’ll have to get it out for Murdock’s Magic Movie Moments*. "The Aquamaniac Returns" *Hannibal sure has a great death scene in this one*. "Fat Man and Little Boy" *Newman was good, but where did they find that guy that plays Oppenheimer*? *Ahhhhh… there it is*. "Frankie’s Home Movies" Sparks congratulated herself on the clever title in which she had hidden the special movie. No self-respecting nighthawks would go near that one. Glancing nervously over her shoulders, she quickly grabbed the video and tucked it under her shirt and made a beeline for her bedroom. "Whew! Made it." Sparks heaved a huge sigh of relief as she slammed the door and bolted the six Mighty Lock latches and slid the three Supersecure chain locks into place. *insert Mission impossible music here* She weaved in and out past the sundry objects cluttering her room until she stood in front of the walk-in closet. Reaching down inside her high tops for the key, she unlocked the door and pushed past the commando uniforms into the farthest back corner of the clothing recess. She pushed an almost concealed button in the wall and opened a secret door. Taking out the video, she slipped through into the covert quarters. *end music* "Success!" Sparks crowed to herself and then quietly began changing into the synthetic pink silk pajamas draped on the back of the recliner in the small room. She fervently wished they were the real thing, but knew that these would have to do. Placing the revered video into the tv/vcr, the only other object to occupy her private sanctuary, she settled down to enjoy some real entertainment. Sparks smiled with glee at the opening credits for "Mark of the Devil" starring Dirk Benedict in all his glory. So you see everyone… "this" is where Sparks has been hiding all this time. Yes, that’s right… Sparks - second-in-command of the Nighthawk Commandos… is a closet Dirk fan. THE END Ace "We lie, we cheat, we steal, and still don't get any respect."
