For Mac OS 8 users:The pictures at this site are all saved in JPEG format and need no conversion to be used for Macs. Simply download the file(s), open the Desktop Pictures Control Panel, click "Set Picture...", and choose the file from the resulting dialogue box! You can even choose an entire folder of pictures to be randomly used as Desktop Pictures! Macworld magazine recently printed an excellent article explaining how to use Mac OS 8's Desktop Pictures feature.
For other Mac users: There are various other pieces of software available to do basically the same thing in System 7. One of the best programs is Décor. To find out more about this shareware program (or to purchase it for only $10), visit this site.
For Windows 95 users: The pictures at this site are saved in JPEG format and to be able viewed as the desktop picture on your computer, they must be converted to BMP format. Don't worry - some browsers (such as Internet Explore 3.0) and most basic graphics programs can perform this conversion. Remember the location of where you have saved this file. Then click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Settings and Display. Or, minimise all your windows and right click on the desktop and select Properties from the box that pops up. Click the Background tab in the dialogue box and in the Wallpaper section click on Browse and locate the picture you want. For the best effect, click on Center in the Wallpaper section. You can also change the colour of the desktop so you can choose the background colour for your wallpaper. Simply click on the Appearance tab, select Desktop as the Item and click on a colour swatch to set the colour!
