"Snippage"

Well, it seems these days that I'm having shorter and shorter dreams - snippet dreams, I call them. Damn, I miss those opus dreams. Ah, well. I wasn't going to include these on the page, but what the hell:

It appears having Imajiru visit is a good thing, because she came to visit me again and I had two more snippet dreams. The first came on the heels of David Duchovny's infamous interview for Esquire- the one for which he ended up having to apologize to organizations like GLADD. In this dream, David and I were fellow graduate students at Yale in the late '80s (this never happened, by the way. I was an undergrad a year after he left). I was studying to become a psychiatrist and conducting research on why certain people are prone to say stupid things in public. David was the first test subject towards my degree. Fast-foward to 1999: I was asked to review my research in light of the recent interview and make recommendations to help David fetter his uncontrollable need to open mouth and insert foot. I can't tell you if it helped. But this is Dreamland, so let's just say it did.

The following Friday night, I dreamt that Nicholas Lea was trying to get my friends and me into the X-Files wrap party (which in real life was happening in LA that Saturday night, though I don't know where). It didn't work. But nice of him to try. ;->

I dreamt that I was with some friends and other Nick Lea fans at a ski resort. We were waiting for Nick - literally waiting for weeks for Nick to show up at this ski resort (clearly even my subconcious takes me for some kind of geek). I don't know who tipped us off that he'd finally get there, but apparently he'd be there for an extended vacation.

Nick finally arrived, walking down a snowy hill to a reception fit for a hero or shining knight. He was dressed in the same clothing he was wearing at the Tomba Invitational. His friend, Brian, was with him (I've never seen Brian, but the man accompanying him was indentified as such). Nick instantly recognized my friends ane me and gave each one of us all hugs and great big smiles, much to the chagrin of the other Nick fans waiting around. Some of the jealous fans included some old college buddies of mine I never would have pegged to become Nick fans.

Anyway, the weird thing is (and something always has to be weird in my dreams) that Nick took off his hat and revealed to horrified onlookers that he'd decided to go bald in emulation of Mitch! He said he wanted to try it out for awhile, and he didn't seem to think shaving all his hair was any big deal.

After we chatted amiably for awhile, I said, "Really, Nick, you need to grow your hair back." He pointed at my own 'do and retored with some catty remark that I was hardly the person to offer tips on hair. He said this in that sort of affectionate way that let me know he liked my hair, but he had to tease me anyway. ;->

So I now know what Nick would look like bald, and, gals, let me tell ya, it ain't pretty.

I've had many X-Files dreams since that last one, but this is the first one I've remembered in any detail in a long time. It seems to be a sequel to the very first dream I had where Gillian joined my family for Thanksgiving, because in this one, she was hanging out at my house for Christmas.

Gillian and I were back at the house in Chicago where I grew up, talking. Some of my friends came over, and I introduced them to her. I remember she was wearing a burgundy velvet dress for some reason. She was in a very goofy mood, giggling and telling jokes. At one point she reached over and hugged me and kissed me on the cheek.

Even odder, Alicia Silverstone was visiting my house as well. It turned out she had retired from acting and had taken a similar job as the one I have at my company. Her contract was up for negotiation, so we started to compare salaries. She was getting paid a little more than I because of her status as a former actress, but not much more.

Suddenly, I was standing outside, talking to Nick Lea, who was telling me that he'd had a speaking engagement at Harvard that got cancelled, so the date was up for grabs. He wanted to offer it to a group of fans if they could come up with a good proposal - he was giving me broad hints that he wanted that group of fans to be spearheaded by The Nick League, so I started working on a proposal right away.

Soon after I was an extra for "The Fight Club" episode, I dreamt that I was auditioning to be a paid extra for the show. But then I looked at my sides, and it turned out I was reading for Krycek. Not sure how Chris Carter was going to explain that Krycek has suddenly turned into a Black woman.
