Highlights:
The set list basically sums it up; that plus the "homecoming," the venue, and the special guests make this show one of the no-doubt stand-out all-time greats in Boss history. Onstage in the gym of his old Catholic grammar school, Bruce was joined on a few songs by Soozie Tyrell on violin and Patti Scialfa on backup vocals. A total of eight tour debuts (nine if we count "In Freehold," and seeing as how it's a very different song than "In Michigan," I guess we should): "The River," "Two Hearts," "When You're Alone," "Open All Night," "Used Cars," "Growin' Up," "My Hometown," and "Racing in the Street." Whew. And if that's not enough, check out the songs he played at soundcheck, too. In the audience: Castiles co-leader George Theiss, Max Weinberg, Marion Vinyard (wife of the late Tex Vinyard, manager of the Castiles). Since the days of the Castiles, the only other time Bruce has performed in his hometown was at the Monmouth County Fair on 7/23/82, where he jammed with Sonny Kenn.
