Plaid was organized while the members were High School
students in Nashville, Tennessee. The band was
immediately asked to lead praise and worship services and
perform concerts for their youth pastors and other youth
ministers in the Nashville area. Brannon Hancock, Andrew
Adams, Jason Payton, and Allen Salmon came up with the
only name they could agree on, Plaid. They soon validated
their existence with scripture. Romans 12:2 states, "Do not
conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be
able to test and approve what God's will is -- His good,
pleasing and perfect will."
Soon after meeting their full-time manager and booking
agent, Jon Sparks, the band began to play more dates in and
outside the Nashville area. Many local venues such as
Nashville's Rocketown soon caught onto Plaid's local
popularity and they opened for Six Pence None the Richer,
and later, Reality Check. Additionally, they made
Rocketown's prestigous list of favorite five unsigned bands.
Plaid also caught the attention of Audio Adrenaline's, Will
McGinniss, who helped Plaid arrange and produce a three
song demo. (They recorded in Will's living room!) Plaid
impressed California promoter Dave Kerby and he
showcased them at Nashville's hot spot, Caffe' Milano, during
GMA week 1997. Soon after, a more formal request to record
a demo came from producer Mark Quattrochi and engineer,
Paul Salvo. Mark was former A/R executive for Tattoo
Records and directed the production of all of Tattoo's
recording projects. Also, Mark is currently producing Eric
Champion's latest project. Paul has engineered projects from
Donna Summer to The Choir, just to name a few. In three
days, the three song demo was recorded and mixed at Great
Circle Sound and Scrimshaw Studios.
In the coming weeks, months and year, Plaid will be touring
the eastern United States with dates in Vermont, Florida,
Ohio, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, Maryland
and Oklahoma. To meet demand, Plaid will be completing a
self produced project, plus songs from the demo, to be
released this year. With a combination of talent, many
musical influences, and a great sense of humor, Plaid has a
truly unique alternative and traditional rock sound. Their
music is driven by electric and acoustic guitars, accented
occasionally by saxophone. Plaid's added appeal is their
average age of 19, which is respected by the youthful
audience in which they minister. They all serve in their local
churches in music and teen ministry and is prepared to rock
your youth through music and testimony.
