Mary Hart: The WWII epic Saving Private Ryan earned Steven Spielberg an Oscar. Now he has
turned to TV and enlisted some tough as nails actors for his new series SemperFi. This is another
ET first.
Vicellous Reon Shannon: We all know that when Steven does something he's going to do it right!
Steve Burton: He had a hand in picking all of us. So you know...it's an honor.
Mary Hart: It's an honor but tough work as well and they hadn't even started shooting.
Shows the women marching and chanting: "I used to wear a mini-skirt and now I'm rolling in the dirt."
Mary Hart: This is Paris Island. The place where they make marines. Now it's also where they'll make
SemperFi. The new NBC series from an executive-produced team that includes Steven Speilberg!
Mitchell Watkins(co-exe.producer/director): I think once you become attached and you see the pride
and the poetry and the patriotic feelings you get when working with the military. This became
a natural idea.
Vicellous: A lot of times you know we don't want to do the physical training or the drilling, but
recruits don't have that option. So we have to be faithful to that.
Mary Hart: Vicellous Reon Shannon comes to SemperFi from "The Hurricane", Scott Barstow can
be seen on Party of Five and Steve Burton is a 10 year veteran of General Hospital.
Steve Burton: Here you have no choice.....you go out and if you're sore...you do it.
Tammy Townsend: Bruised!! I have the marks to show it.
Mary Hart: The series will follow recruits thru the 12 week 'hell' known as 'boot camp'. For a week
and a half these young actors trained side by side with real recruits as the marines turned them
into a few good men & a couple of good women.
Bianica Kajlich: It's not about being male, it's not about being female, it's about being marines!
Mary Hart: Not an easy gig! And by the way those actors didn't escape one of the toughest parts
of boot camp........they had their head shaved.
